I've done quite a few of these, and rather than list the usuals I'll try and think of some more offbeat or not-commonly-mentioned-by-other-people stuff I enjoy.
Gradius 3 (The SNES version... sounds much better than the arcade/3&4 collection) Legend of Mana, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy Adventure (Or Seiken Densetsu for you purists) Radiant Silvergun Castlevania 3, Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence Baten Kaitos, Star Ocean 2 YS III: Wanders from YS (SNES version here, too... Genesis and PS2 remake versions didn't do it for me) Guilty Gear XX UNLIMITED SaGa Dragon Warrior series (all of them) have some moments I really enjoy. I couldn't listen to a lot of stuff from these outside the game, but their music has never failed in it's own context in any case. Suikoden II has some great tracks Final Fantasy Legend I and II had some great stuff Final Fantasy XI has some good stuff, even outside the handful of tracks Uematsu did I'll stop myself here before I start rambling. |

FFVIII: You can't mention that without talking about FH (Fisherman's Horizon) IMO. Best song.
Halo: I forget the name of it...Covenant something. Edit when I get home. |

I'm a huge fan of video game music, going back to the NES and Genesis, when I used to jack the consoles into my stereo and make mix tapes from various games (and thank God for the games with sound tests - it made for better mix tapes than those whose music was interspersed with sound effects from the game levels). I couldn't possibly go into all of my favorites, but my absolute favorite track of all time has to be Time's Scar from Chrono Cross.
Second favorite would be Cosmo Canyon from Final Fantasy VII. When my youngest son was only a few months old I was having trouble getting him to sleep one night. He was screaming at the top of his lungs until I accidentally hit the play button on my CD player next to my bed. FF7 soundtrack disc three happened to be in it, and as soon as Cosmo Canyon started playing he stopped crying. Within two minutes he was asleep. He's almost two now and still stops whatever he's doing when that song is played

The only video-game music that floats my boat is the FF music. I mean, there's some classics that I love from SMB, or StH, and even the occasional MegaMan... But Music is such a big deal to me - its an enhancer for mood, and the emotive quality of many FF songs just get to me. I don't mind saying that Aerith's Theme from FF7, and "Eye's On Me" from FF8 both made me cry...

FRONT KICK OF DOOM!

Never underestimate the power of the remix.
I am a particular fan of Chrono Trigger, Mega Man (Bubble Man kicked ass even if his power didn't), and Punch Out. GAME OVER! |

I'm not the only one waiting for Game Over's second album, right?
EDIT: Oh...it's not a re arranged version of the lufia songs? Blast it. EDIT EDIT: It's STILL the best ending theme ever...

The Jenova theme that played during Cloud Vs. Kadaj in FF7: AC, Kefka's theme, and liberi fatali are my favourites.

Ahh, video games. The source of all my intellect. (Screw Jack Thompson, if I went on a homicidal rampage every time I played Halo 2, the world would cease to exist. :shifty: )
Anyhoo, I'm a particular fan of the Chrono Trigger music. My favorite song of which would probably be Schala's Theme or the Ocean Palace music. Then would probably be certain tunes from the newer Pokemon games (hey, the games weren't dubbed by 4Kids, they aren't that bad). I also really like the opening theme music for FFI+II. Then again, who doesn't? (That was rhetorical.)

Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." |
