I would have to back Edwards, Obama, or Clinton. I have bad feeling about the other candidates, and I know that it's a poor way to judge, but I was right about Bush.
I am not completely sure that Clinton is trustworthy, but she has the political experience to get things done that I feel that the others lack. They seem like they talk about big things, but I think that Clinton could get them done.
I'm not old enough to vote though, so all I can do is try to convince people of my opinion.

I'm not allowed to vote. I live in the states. I benefit from you economically and educationally (best education system in the world...for now). But theres this little legality issue about resident aliens not being allowed to vote. Not that I'm illegal or anything, totally legit. I just never bothered to get my full citizenship. I like the idea of being able to go back to Canada without having to get a visa/paperwork.

But after all that, I think if I were allowed to vote, I'd vote for Obama and Romney. Screw party lines, it'd be nice to have a Democrat AND Republican in the seperate executive offices. Obama of course being the Pres and Romney the VP.

This is a little off topic, but Canada and the US have a non-visa agreement system for travel. I can get into Canada with a driver's license; I don't even need a passport, let alone a visa. At least that's how it is if you're driving, no idea about the airports.

On topic, I have no idea why people like the guy that wants to quadruple the size of Gitmo. I don't think I've heard anything come out of his mouth that I could really get behind yet.

Given half a chance, I'd go Hillary. Obama is a kid with ideas. He has some good ones, but I don't see the political chops in him to get them accomplished, and he hasn't been around long enough to have a support network. And there's nothing genuinely black about him.

I just don't see him being effective or popular with minorities once the ball gets rolling.

You're the billionth person I've heard that from. Why the hell does that matter at all?

Using that line of thinking I can argue that there's nothing genuinely female about Hillary.

Seriously, what does everyone want? This guy to start speaking with a southern drawl? Start wearing platinum chains and calling his associates "Gs"? I for one am happy he's breaking all of these steriotypes.

If only cross party running was "allowed" I'd be all for Obama/Romney, I think they'd balance things pretty well.

I mean it in such a way that, no, I'm not expecting some racial stereotype. He's a politician. What I would expect from him is a bit more interest in minority communities, which I haven't seen from him yet. It's a matter of minorities inevitably being disappointed that he's putting no more focus on them than anyone else ever has. And there WILL be those who vote for him because he's black, the same way there will be those who vote for Hillary because she's a woman. There will be a general expectation based on his race that he probably won't satisfy.

Hillary, on the other hand, makes no pretense of doing anything major for women, and nobody is expecting her to. As you said, there's nothing genuinely effeminate about her. Some people might vote for her to get a female president, but most people look at her and see experience, connections, and the six gallons of force in a five gallon cup needed to get her there in the first place.

Don't forget that a vote for Hillary is a vote for Bill!

But can you live and work there? The way I understood that law is that you only need a driver's license to visit Canada, as a tourist.

Her recently proposed Retirement Savings Accounts are basically Bush's plan from 2005 except she's not explicitly proposing to de-fund Social Security in order to pay for it.

I don't get why you're creating a racial expectation that Obama has to satisfy, but not one for Hillary? It seems like you're saying "Obama doesn't care enough about minorities, which is bad because he should care more, but Hillary doesn't care at all about women, which is good because ________."

I'm just trying to figure out where you're going with that.

Grasping, naked ambition would certainly explain why she would want to be President; I'm just not sure where that translates into a reason why I would want her to be the President.

Why do people keep saying Clinton's experience and connections are a good thing? You know who else has experience and connections? Dick Cheney. What I want to hear from her is that her policies are worth half a crap, and so far they aren't. If she gets into office I'm positive nothing will be done about anything; she'll be another status quo president. Maybe the economy takes an up-tick, but since all of those have been headed straight for the upper class for the last thirty years I can't really bring myself to care all that much.

B Real - I'm pretty sure I could while not being a citizen, since that's pretty much what you're doing in the States now, right? I imagine the paper work would be roughly the same as what you had to do to be a working resident alien in the US.
