But the Fire Nation acts more like an empire. You know, colonising poor little villages in the Earth Kingdom instead of kindly making peaceful trade with them and not stomping on their non-firebending mojo. Besides, that bad connotation to the word empire just started to come into the populace mind a bit before the fall of the British Empire. If you asked anyone before the twentieth century, empires can be good.

I think this may be one of those things were Nickelodeon says no no, empires are too bad for children to comprehend.

Something occured to me during yesturdays episode. They placed Toph in a wooden cell. Meaning, not metal like you normally would for an earth bender. Wouldn't that mean people now know Toph can metal bend?

That and, why would they have that!? This is the fire nation, with fire benders. Why the heck would they have cells made of wood?

They have buildings made of wood.
They probably save the metal jail for people who they deem truly dangerous, or for firebenders, whereas the wooden cell is good for any ordinary person.

yea but he didn't see her metal bend

for that matter if she can metal bend, why doesn't she just rip off his arm and leg

I standed corrected before. But, as to your second inquiry:

a) She isn't a savage.

b) She hasn't been close enough to metalbend Sparky Sparky Boom Man.

Do you think that, with bloodbending, metalbending, and lightningbending already revealed, we will see an advanced class of airbending? Maybe vacuumbending? I don't know.
