Japanese culture does have a profound effect on western culture, but Im sure that in return western culture rubs onto Japan a bit as well.
For example, we watch their anime, but Japan mainly made anime because they had film industry without it. Aside from that, some parts of Japanese culture are just better. They make our video games, they make our anime, and they invented something very similar to the ramen we eat today. And while Japan is cool and all, it annoys me when people think it is completely superior or something and start being a weeboo. Quote:

I actually dont think Western Culture rubs off on them, as Japan is known to be an extremely xenophobic nation.

In all fairness... Anime beats the crap out of most animations from other countries. But live action Movies/Series in the current age to me are better on the western side of the table.
Cosplay? Yeah... i've almost done it (some RPG buddies wanted to dress as characters from Final Fantasy Tactics for a AnimeCon, i was going to be a summoner =P) but there are western cosplays too (My girlfriend wants do to a Catwoman cosplay for instance...) i found it silly as hell, but sometimes is "oh so fun" to be silly as hell =P J-music.. well... it's an 8/80 thing... i like, maybe, 30 songs from about... 100 or more that i've listened too over the years. I wanted to work with Dubbing BECAUSE of japanese VA... they are freaking awesome! Andover there, they are like rockstars or something.... I mean, making anime, manga, videogames, and doing voices for all of those is a Industry there. A cultural thing and a Financial thing... it's worth millions! That's pretty cool too... But god damn it, when people overdo it, it gets pretty annoying... if you dont speak English, or dont intend to, you shouldnt be using any of the following: "Kawai" "Baka" "Oro" "Nani" san/kun/dono and similars... it's just annoying. really. Japanese people, in most, dont live submerged on "Anime Dreams", so people out of japan who do it look really silly doing it. |

I eat ramen, everyday, and no, not because I want to be Japanese. It's because I'm a poor teenager who's moved out of his parents' basment. Part of the reason I want to move to Japan is that I've been there, which made me kind of embarrassed at times because I know very little Japanese. VERY LITTLE.
With the anime nerds, it's no different than Star Trek or Star Wars super nerds. Some people are cool. Some people take it too far without bothering other people. Some people take it way too far and need to calm down a little bit. But none of those people really bother me. If it makes you happy and it's what you wanna do, go for shit.

A note to all anime lovers and general Japan enthusiasts presents:
SHUT THE MOTHERFUCKING FUCK UP ABOUT JAPAN!!! Seriouisly do need to keep hearing about this place? I know it was this whole unique culture shit going on, but do we really need to here about it every week for the sole purpose of talking about Japan I wouldn't mind if these things came up when Japan actually did shit but most of the time it just appears out of the blue and discusses nothing but anime and manga(and those fucking noodles too) How fucked up Japan is or is not and Fanaticism. Seriously one hundred years I bet that most people won't even remember what country anime originated from given the increase of western knock-offs. No I do not want to hear about it! NO! No!

Their economy is tanking, and they're not quite sure why. Probably because they're so strongly linked to the States. Their upper and lower houses are controlled by different parties, which is something that the creators of their constitution didn't envision, so now they're in a bureaucratic deadlock because the upper house has almost the same power as the lower house. It's taken them months to authorise the presence of a refuelling ship in the south Pacific. They're probably one of the largest whaling nations in the world, under the guise of "scientific research." That count? :p In all seriousness, I could do with less Japan. I'll be the first to tell you I love anime, but it could come from Ireland for all I care ( ). Also, on your origins of anime comment: the concept for anime was based off of Disney cartoons. No joke. Quote:
