2 questions:
Will Songbird work with the itouch? It seems to be not very compatible with stuff.
If I used winamp, would it make me rename my music by hand?

My sister has had trouble with this, I'll have to pass this on to her.

What I don't understand is that I thought iPods were supposed to "just work" and so it would be really easy to do this transfer thing.

I bought a Sansa Clip 1GB MP3 player for ten dollars and it works just like a flash drive with a directory and everything and you just copy and paste songs or podcasts or whatever into folders, or out of them onto your computer. This is some cheap thing that probably has the design sensibilities of a rock in comparison to your average Apple product and yet it is far easier to use than the iPod apparently.

This would have been a really easy way to design the iPod.

Apple prefers a walled garden where if you don't want to run iTunes you can go screw yourself. This is where problems arise.
