There have been other Piranha movies but apparently we are ready for a new movie involving Piranha. Also, this MAY be related to the older ones and is the third one in the series, and conveniently coming out in post-Avatar 3D era so it can be made into a 3D movie. There are many reasons why we need a movie about Piranha eating people in 3D, especially in this post-9/11 world.

EDIT: Obviously they'll think of something like that when it's far too late near the end of the movie, Blues, or maybe it'll be opposed by the misguided environmentalist character who is hilariously eaten at some point in the film when it's too late to stop the Piranha.

They're dinosaur piranha. Obviously they can walk on land.

If you think rapid mutation is outside the scope of this movie's plot THINK AGAIN.

The poison could cause the mutation.

Oddly enough the argument to "just stay out of the water" could apply as far back as Jaws, even though they did have the plot point that they didn't want to ruin the tourist season by admitting there was a shark problem. So in this movie they probably don't want to ruin the tourist season by admitting that thousands of Piranha are eating hundreds of people. Basically if it's a plot hole in such a classic as Jaws I think Piranha 3D can be forgiven for not thinking about it too deeply.

But in this case, they're clearly admitting there's a problem. It's just the tourists are too stupid to listen. But then one of them gets eaten and shit gets real, so I'm wondering how they're going to pad it to a two-hour movie.
