F-Zero and NOT Mario Kart becuase F-Zero is fast and cool and Mario Kart was slow and terrible and boring until it became Mario Kart 64.

Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3, Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, Breath of Fire II, Secret of Mana, Mario Kart, F-Zero, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI...
If I absolutely have to pick a single one then I'll say Breath of Fire II, on the grounds that it had a cute mushroom girl in it. Who was also a guy. Because they're a plant and plants are weird like that. |

I mean, I played and beat BRAINLORD ffs! Illusion of Gaia was nothing after collecting all the gems. Lufia II was all about the Ancient Cave Lufia I needs a remake. Earthbound is, was, and always will remain the shit. And BoF II... Dear god did that game put me through an emotional roller coaster. Even though CT was good, it just can't compare when you think of Rand... And his mom. |

Call me crazy here, but I never really liked Earthbound. I get so much shit for this, but I just do not see the appeal of the game, and really never did. What is it about it? Why is this a good game?

Earthbound had a really quirky sense of humor. First, it's a play on Dragon Quest. Second, there's a lot of subtle references that people seem to miss. The Beatles music, the fact that there were some really strong monsters disguised as clumsy robots, the town names (Onett, Twoson, Threed), the fact that the battle system isn't all that interesting but it's the game itself and the situations that you get into as Ness that really make it a far unique experience from any other game out there.
Sure, we have the Persona series as well as Parasite Eve, that have started making modern RPG games, but Earthbound was one of the first that I recall to do so on the SNES (Shadowrun notwithstanding) |

Since all my usual obvious favorites are already mentioned, I can only remedy the fact that we've gone this long in the thread with no mention of Mega Man X.

Contra III
Secret of Evermore Secret of Mana Demon's Crest Yeah, those are the ones from the top of my head that didn't get a mention yet. Earthbound was fucking great, Chrono Trigger as well just like the MMX games, Lufia II, Super Mario World and others already mentioned.

Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen- best game of all time.
Also no mention of Terranigma yet- action rpg Zelda style but in a large world which you can change and develop-like you help someone develop electricity and the cities all get wired up and things. Interesting and very poignant story too. |
