As of right now, everyone I've spoken to plans to just go to the play that day. Which I was going to anyway, since many of my friends are in it.

I vote we protest outside the church with signs that say stupid things and sing songs from the 60's.

Oh and dress in effigy Fred Phelps in Gay Pride colors.

I'm surprised other bigoted groups with more violent tendencies haven't taken them out for besmirching their good name by protesting soldiers' funerals. Say what you want about the Ku Klax Klan or the Hell's Angel's, they're some patriotic bastards. I'm surprised there haven't been a few knifings here and there.

The Hell's Angels are biding their time. Sooner or later, Phelps will mess up and than we will hear about how all 75 members of his church are dead.

short story short: They didn't show up. Short story long: The play was fantastic and made a ton of money for the Matthew Shepard foundation on opening night.

bad related story: Some dumbasses in my town showed up to a seperate unrelated protest/meeting at the local library, started screaming at a group protesting police brutality against the large orthodox population of my area. Their hearts were in the right place, but these people HAVE NO BRAINS

Protesters have no brains to begin with if they are doing anything that makes common sense socially or sense in the long run (NIMBY).

As to the church not showing up...not surprised. People probably didn't care.

Guy 1: Some church who says god is killing soldiers to punish the US for letting people be gay and lesbian apparently.
