Element_man is an unknown quantity at this point.

Dwarves aren't effected by magic.

But, it all comes down to strength VS. agility.

(I'm not even mentioning the fact that you haven't even laid out what fantasy realm we're talking about. Elves and Dwarves are both very potent races.)

I prefer agility. I side with elves.

Where's this? Usually dwarves have magic resistance, but they're still affected by it. Besides, even if they were totally immune you could indirectly hurt them with magic. For instance: a dwarf is in a cave, so the mage blasts away the walls and causes a cave-in on him, or a dwarf is on a field so the mage causes an earthquake under him, spliting the earth etc. etc.

And, yes, agility wins. If you have the strength to lift a sword you can do damage with it, but without agility you aren't going to hit anything... or dodge anything.

Its a games workshopism, that is, that dwarves aren't effected by magic.

According to Arcanum, which I've been replaying recently, dwarves aren't immune to magic, but are technological masters. And technology kills magic. And most of the spells in that game kinda sucked, whereas the technological gadgets = teh win. Especially the lightning staff - ZAAAAP!

My vote goes to the elf side. I prefer accuracy over power. Plus, dwarves are easy targets. If dwarves are allowed guns, I assume that elves are allowed magic arrows, which can seek out targets. Elves are also better than dwarves at hand-to-hand combat. Elves use rapiers and other fine weapons that don't hamper their movements, while dwarves typically carry large, bulky axes.

Dwarves aren't stupid, but neither do they make or even trust guns. Elves trust magic, Dwarves trust metal

I still want to know why dwarves would be able to make guns and elves can't. Their stats and society would make it more likely for an elf to make them.

Dwarves: Prefer melee.
Elves: Prefer ranged.
Elves are more likely to want to use guns.

Dwarves: Stupider than humans.
Elves: Smarter than humans.
Elves are more likely to create guns.

Dwarves: Amazing at forging weapons and armor.
Elves: Amazing at forging small things like jewelry.
Both could reasonably forge a gun rather well.

Dwarves: Have little to no concept of alchemy.
Elves: Are quite good at alchemy.
Elves are more likely to know how to mix powder properly.

Other than that arcanum game, where dwarves seem to be more like your classic fantasy gnomes, elves should be the ones with advanced tech.

Edit: DB, 90% of fantasy related stat sheets would disagree with you. Dwarves are stupider than humans.

Edit 2: Forgot to mention that Dwarves are stubborn and afraid of change for the most part. Of course, elves don't like change, either... so that kind of evens out...

If the Dwarves can get in close, they win. Elves are quick, but one blow from a Dwarf and they will go down, which will bring in more blows till they stop moving.

The problem is, Elves are good archers. So getting close won't be easy.

As for magic, elves have magic, but Dwarves have runes, so it evens out.

Edit - Dwarves don't like change, but they will if needed. Elves are to high and mighty to accept change.

Edit 2 - Also, Gilmi can kick Legolas' ass. (Figured it would come up eventually)
