Speed stats for a M1 Abrams:

Quote:
Speed Road: 42 mph (67.6 km/h)
Off-road: 30 mph (48.3 km/h)
It wouldn't be allowed on any highway for being too slow, but it can totally go on any other type of road.
And that's a main battle-tank.

I'm certain IFV's are a wee bit faster. The German Puma, for instance, can go up to 70 km/h. (First IFV I found stats for. No doubt faster ones exist.)

Anyway, these little cars would be pretty perfect for a city-only role. EDIT: And you'd need some family vehicles, of course, like Krylo pointed out.
Assuming the city was made exclusive to these cars.
But you'd either need heavy financing to have people being able to afford a city-car and an intercity-car, or the public transport system would need to be greatly improved upon.

They'll probably sell a shitton of these in Japan/Europe.

Maybe like, three in the US.

What the fuck does road quality matter when everyone's driving a tank?

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year olds life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Yeah, I won't be one of those guys.

I had a Ford Aspire, a little shoe of a car. Like me and two of my friends once picked it up and moved it to the road cause some asshole blocked me in. TINY, TINY car.

Getting on the freeway in that thing was the scariest thing I have ever done. I don't think I would ever buy one of these.

The only reasons cars that small are potentially less safe is because we as Americans are generally a bunch of idiots that can't get our heads around the fact that your family car doesn't need to be what amounts to a small armored personal carrier. Unfortunately for those of us who are not idiots and want to drive a smaller more efficient vehicle in a crash relative mass does matter in that if the other guy has twice the mass it's going to be bad for you.

We likes our cars like we likes our bodies: fat, inefficient, and overcompensating.

I'm particularly concerned about the rolling hazard with this thing. It's like a giant space Twinkie. If you can lean into a turn with it, the first side impact you get will send you off like a lumberjack's log.

That's largely a non-issue. For a car with normal ground clearance and a standard suspension it would be a problem. However, this car has a much lower center of gravity and obviously doesn't use the same suspension or it couldn't lean into corners. Aside from that rolling isn't such a bad thing as long as your roof can support it and you are secured in the car very well. Heck if anything rolling eats up some energy that would otherwise make it to you.

See, Motorcycles can easily do 90mph, have no air-bags or seat-belts, and expose the driver on 3-4 sides of their body depending on how you sit.

This is none of those things, and pre-desgined to compensate for the fact that it is smaller with enhanced safety features.

I would like to see this applied to a slightly larger, think medium-small sized car, 4 passenger 2-by-2 frame.

It would make a neat town car. Though that would be about it.

Looks cool as fuck from the side and rear though. I'd buy one.
