Aristobulous quietly cleared his throat.

"Hard to say" He rasped "I've seen caves that extend miles under the ground, hard to tell what we are getting into from here. Hopefully nothing to dangerous"


He gently shifted the war-hammer on his back, trying to get a little more comfortable.

"You said you were a hunter before.. coming here, What kind of things did you hunt?"

His eyes scanned the area around them and he glanced briefly at the girl.

"How long have you been a hunter?" He asked with a slight frown.

"In the past, when my kind lived completely in the oceans, all we hunted were fish, crabs, clams and stuff like that," Nailynne answered, grateful for the conversation. "Once we were forced out of the water and onto the land, we started hunting land beasts. We still hunted a lot of large fish. Some of their scales and innerds are very useful."

"I've been hunting for about seven years. We work for the village as early as four years old, but we don't get involved in dangerous stuff like hunting until about eight when we're a lot more capable at wielding lethal weapons. My kind already lived above land before I was born, but learning how to hunt and fight underwater is still a big priority for the tribe. I can stop hunting in three more years when I'm allowed to become an adult and get married and bear children, but I actually kind of like fighting so I think I might remain a hunter."

Nailynne then paused. She sniffed the air. "Smells different," she said, oar at the ready. She didn't know if she was smelling this cavern's predatory inhabitants or maybe just a kind of aromatic mushroom, but sudden changes in smell usually never boded well.

James had never been in a cave his entire life, so creepy cave was just a creepy cave to him. If you ask me, marriage is overrated. Me? Twenty-three years old and not a ring. You're better off without it. Kids too.

Having no survival instincts to speak of, he simply continued on. He didn't want to be the scared one next to the little girl after all.

So...you're a fishgirl? Like a mermaid? I've got to say I've never seen a creature like yourself. Come to think it, I've never seen anything like our other...female companion either, he looked a bit nervously at Adrielle.

Before Nailynne could respond, squelching noises came from above and phosphorescent green slime began dripping down. Everyone looked up to see large egg sacs, each the size of a full-grown pig, wedged between the stalactites. The slime came from several eggs that were beginning to split open.

Everyone stepped back as three oversized larvae dropped to the cave floor, black as the night and only visible from the glowing ooze that covered them. Each one appeared to be larger than the eggs they were in, and as they reared up in the direction of the group all that could be seen of their face was a circular mouth with multiple rows of teeth, illuminated by the slime, which appeared to be slowly flowing out as a form of saliva.

Everyone was momentarily frozen with terror, as that was not what they expected to find in this cave. Marcus was the first to recover, turning around and running as fast as he could out of the cave. Before the others could react, another larva dropped between the rest of the group and the exit, leaving them no choice but to fight.
