Hmm, that's a good point... It would mean the GM would have to handle practically everything through PMs, which could become a pain in the ass... It could be fun if pulled off properly however.

And the last time I saw a desert RP was... Back on TWC, Mad Emperor's desert RP he did where I was Glam. Whatever happened Mad anway? I wonder why he didn't make the jump...

It's not getting a Thing that is the problem, it is the RPing. Everyone would just be posting about where they are and what they are doing, while the PC who is the Thing is just going along and doing the perfect turns needed to get to the closest person. Then they kill that person. Then everyone knows who the Thing is. Even if the killing is done in private, suddenly one guy stops posting after a connection of two characters, while the other keeps going. The entire RP would have to be controlled by the GM via PMs.

Jad tried an RP like this once actually... It died.

Edit - But, unlike Jad's RP, the Thing can just bust out and kill several people at a time. The killer in Jad's RP could not.

Well lets see. A Thing RP would have...

Marines. They are well armed, and a variable number of them need to carry flamethrowers (This number would possibly 1/3-1/4 of all the marines, and randomly assigned) The map would need to be well done, with details about where everything in every room is. There would be 1 "Thing", which is the monster that kills and takes your identity. There would be 1-2 medics who would carry a limited number of Blood Tests (Allows the medics to tell who is and isn't a thing, but no one else can tell without the Blood Tests and knowledge of how to use it), although the base they are in would have more to find. It would all have to be handled in PMs. The marines would start off clueless about how to kill it, then they would gather info as they explore the base until they know how to kill it. Brain has suddenly stopped functioning, but that is a basic idea of how it would work...

And then there is the whole low supply of food thing, the cold killing you if you are outside to long, and other confusing variables.

And can't the Thing kill a couple of Marines with guns by itself? Haven't seen the movie in a long time...

Then someone could be Garter Snake, and someone could be Bear, and someone could be good ol' Cougar and the main villain could be the Terrible Beast! Hell, we could even throw in the thunder birds for good measure!

I never saw the movie, but I learned a bunch about it while trying to learn if the game was any good. I can't seem to find a copy of the movie anywhere local...

The only thing that permenantly kills a Thing is fire. However, I think machine guns can hold it back. So if it found 5 people in a room, it better sit still or retreat, but if it is only 1 or 2, it could take them.

Well, the Thing RP is out for me. FZ, if you want to try and do all these PMs, then take in the ammo supply variable, the food supply variable, the coldness factor, and medical supplies.
