The amount requested is ridiculous, but still -- you're oversimplifying/not seeing it

Network/whatevers: "We don't see this as being a profitable thing for us anymore." Show Folks: "Oh. Well, here. We'll go talk to the fans." ... SF: "OK, we have found a way to generate funds and have enough to cover much of the overhead, making it easier for you to get to the part of television that generates you money with quite little cost to you / the former financial backers waiting for profits." N: "Ahh, we are suddenly more motivated to keep this show going, then."

That's still missing the point , which is to minimize the "business" aspects of creative endeavors. Unless I'm mistaken, there's no rule to Kickstarter that says a product must be delivered to contributors, it's just an obvious choice of incentive.(considering kickstarters have been succesfully funded for free internet shows). The point is to crowd-fund the creation of a thing for it's own sake.

thats one way to look at it. Here is another "Oh you like this show, well if you dont give us a million dollars we are going to kill it."
These are people with conventional channels to fund shows, while there are plenty of legitimate times to do this I also know there have been times unscrupulous people do things like this just to milk money from a fan base. Obviously its your money, but I'd sooner spend my money on a start-up than an already established for profit studio.

If I like an established show I support it through ad revenue and purchasing things like DVDs. Shows have been brought back for these reasons in the past. Also, stop getting so defensive. I am trying to say I would not give money for something I am already supporting through the above methods. There is such a thing as an opinion, and more than one can exist about a subject. You are not wrong in yours.
