I can't speak for Bojack Horseman, but Rick and Morty is excellent. In terms of how it makes me feel, I would describe its style as "Nihilistic Futurama". Also it has incredible pacing; episodes are a breeze. Strongly recommend it.

When did animated shows get so philosophical? |

Since the 90s... well kind of. It's been on and off a lot.

The storylines are all really well thought out and each character has so much life to them. Even the silly things from early episodes were planned into the show for later. The only episode I disliked was the Uncle Grandpa crossover episode, and that's because it felt like a poorly written joke episode featuring the 1 dimensional impressions everyone got from the characters early on- Garnet is Stoic, Pearl is Neurotic, Amethyst is lazy. I'm really loving Pearl's character development the most, but Peridot is my fast becoming my favourite character arc. Now that we know that Lapis Lazuli is coming back thanks to CN's latest leaked trailers, which implies Malachite and Jasper as well but hopefully Jasper becomes the earthbound villain or gets Bubbled and Lapis can start her healing term, there's going to be so much happening. I'm so psyched. I just hope that CN's constant fucking bumbling with the schedule gets addressed. They don't even know when episodes are coming anymore it feels like, cause they dropped trailers for later episodes last week and we got some pretty major spoilers implied. EDIT: Rick & Morty is simultaneously fun and also Hot Garbage. I wouldn't recommend the show to anyone but at the same time I don't think anyone is going to majorly dislike it. It's the cartoon version of a bad B movie.

So we are clear

Rick & Morty is a highbrow show in lowbrow clothes.
But more on topic. I watched the Steven Universe episode that goes over how Ruby and Sapphire met because I didn't realize I missed it. It is to my knowledge the only episode happening during the war, but one thing nagged at me. Where were the others? We only see Rose and Pearl but not only would it be absurd to think two people could even be called a rebellion but other episodes make mention of others. I don't know if they ever would but personally I'd like to see or atleast acknowledge that there were others.

Instead of just watching individual clips of the shows isolated from broader context/story, you should just watch the shows. That'll go a lot farther towards giving you an understanding of what they're like/if you enjoy them.
If I had to recommend 5 early Steven Universe episodes, I think I'd go with Laser Light Cannon, Bubble Buddies, Steven's Lion, Cheeseburger Backpack, and Giant Woman. I feel like they give a good sense of the show's range and hold up pretty well for early episodes (some other early ones are a bit clumsy and might give a different impression of the characters). If you like those, then you can just dive into the rest. By the midpoint of Season 1, the show basically finds its footing and keeps steady quality throughout. |

You just can't discuss how.
You have the internet, Seil.
You can watch whatever you want.
