My hypothesis that Ark was Earth and that Humans were the offspring of what was left of the ones that came before. That would explain why the Covenent didn't realize that Earth, the homeplanet the the Humans would contain such a large human occupation. They probaly just thought they were going to Ark to activate the Halos.
