So here's the next one. Right off the bat, there are quite a few things I dislike about this drawing. a) Ears too big. b) Eyes are off. c) Neck too long. d) I forgot to color the button on her jeans. Other than that, I really like how this drawing turned out. I really, really like her shoes and how the jeans come down on them. I drew it on new paper I got, which is really smooth and nice. Heh. I lurve it.

And whilst I would have put my own spin on it, I can't - because it's his lineart so all I was basically doing was just adding lines and colour. Now, if I were to do my own version of a (what was it?) RO Priestess? I would do something slightly different. Hah - my old illustration tutors used to get so mad at me, because whilst literally EVERYONE in the illustration work draws realistically, all I ever want to do is draw toons. Quite literally. I even collab'd on a set comic called Pirate Monkeys. Nothing like drawing cartoon monkeys, really...

choose to exagerate tells something about the person drawing it. A work should give some personal insight into the artist who creates it. It's easier to see that when a person does their craft by hand and uses their own perceptions about a given subject. Even the choice of subject gives insight into a person's thoughts and ideas. The more mechanical the device for creating something becomes, the more common it tends to be. Like an assembly line that mass produces plastic flowers. They may last longer than the real thing- but they still smell like plastic. I can remember back when I was in art class years ago where one person drew great portraits. I asked him why he never sketched the full figure or body parts. The person just couldn't draw nudes for personal reasons. It was psychological and mental, not that he couldn't do it physically. It told a great deal about the person, no matter how strange. Now you have political unrest in the world over a religious cartoon. Which has resulted in the defacing of hundreds of Danish websites and has even resulted in a few deaths. The power of the toon! Which has surprised me since I was starting to believe that the medium had become less and less relevant. So if you're choosing to draw monkeys, it might be wise to be careful which religion they practice! |

Oops?
I thought I'd post in here again. This time, I thought I'd try a completely different style of coloring. I really like how it came out. Also, I got the background from Google Search, just blurred it up a bit 'cause I found it necessary. Hope you like it.

Last night I had the chance, thanks to a friend, to see Shinichiro Watanabe at the
Detroit Institute of Arts Film Theatre. They showed clips from his Cowboy Bebop television cartoon and also part of Samurai Champloo. After that he answered questions through an interpreter since most of what he said was in Japanese. What I found most interesting is that much of his influence early on came from watching Disney cartoons and listening to the rock band Kiss. Also he said that the early anime that was made had less frames per second than the American animation at the time, hence the panning in and out of panels and less movement of the characters. This he said was done because of the lack of money at the time. All in all I enjoyed it. It was an interesting evening. E: Dan says Smackjeeves will be back in a few days. Can you say, "Where did all my comics go again?" "I'll bet you say they're gone I betch'a-" "Float'n here or there- I don't know......" webcomix can be fun! truly! Ed's just figuring out why they called it a "shrimp" cocktail.
Originally drawn by one of my friends, but I colored it.

It's Judith! As in Funnie. From Doug. Ah, man, I loved that show. Anyway, the other day, I realized that Judy was exactly how my friends and I are today. So, I decided to stylize her. Don't particularly like the shading on her shirt, but that's me being picky. Her feet aren't that bad, considering they're the first feet I've drawn. Woot.
