If I were the artist, which I'm not, of course, I'd try to keep the whole thing as much in one style as possible. But with a work that big a shift in style can't really be avoided, I guess. I'm not saying that I don't like the recent art shift, I just feel weird when I see the character's mouths in that style. Just the mouths, that's all. Maybe it is simply because there weren't any mouths in the old cutscene style (yeah, I just called it that). Mouths. I'll try to be as open minded towards mouths as possible.
EDIT: The sprites n' tiles are totally cool though. Reminiscent of Earthbound. Which I guess is what he/they were going for.

No, he can't alchemize the Timetables with each other, due to the way that alchemizing works. You know, with the punch-holes and all.
Like, for example, say you have one card where the punched holes are A1 and B2, and another one, where the only holes are B2 and C5. Combining the cards && each other would require punching A1, B2, and C5. Punching them || each other would be just B2 (because that's the only one that exists on both cards. Two Timetable cards would have the exact same codes. So, no matter which way you combine two Timetable cards, you'd just end up with the exact same code. Combining two Timetables would just get you another set of Timetables identical to the first 2. |

I'm pretty sure Andrew said on his formspring that there isn't an incredible amount of symbolism to the new style right now. He's mostly just introducing it so we can get used to potentially seeing it more often.

Evolve, fade away, or turn into Dominic Deegan. Granted, Homestuck is not really going to be long enough to go either of the latter two ways, but the series is about growth. Hussie's pretty regularly experimented with different types of storytelling and art, this is just the most jarring change. Quote:

So yeah, pretty much what you said.

Yeah. Hero Mode is much flatter and with cleaner edges. It's more like silhouettes. This is quite different.
I've grown okay with this new style. Last edited by Viridis; 11-05-2010 at 07:21 PM. |

Fair enough.
To all of you. Though I suppose Dave could put all the Timetables into one card for double the time fuckery when alchemizing.

I'm less put off by the new Hussnasty style and more feeling like the Earthboundesque sprites have worn out their welcome.

There's a reason videogames don't use sprites anymore.

The way I figure it, he's just showing off some excess sprites. They'll probably come to a close when he gets to use the rest of them (I.E John and Jade).
