Wind Waker Link pointedly had no relation to the hero and, if I recall correctly, was directly stated NOT to be a reincarnation of him. He still used the mastersword. Even if Mario had to find the X fragments of the Triforce of Courage first (and ALttP Link didn't have it, since the triangles were sealed in the dark world), there's no reason he can't just do that. Also Ganon can potentially be killed by three different swords that are not the Master Sword in Zelda 1, and the most powerful of them is pretty well hidden, so it's clearly not intended that you'll definitely have it when you fight him. He can totally be killed by other means, it's just harder.

Besides all of this, Mario has killed dudes who shatter constellations. He's beaten up Final Fantasy endbosses and travelled the cosmos and beaten a universe-conquering foe. He's strong enough without strength enhancing artifacts to throw a giant dragon around, and he's collapsed a sun. He's so far out of Ganon's league that any suggestion he couldn't A. pick up the Master Sword, and B. Kill Ganon while giving no fucks about how prophecy says it's supposed to be done, is laughable. The guys Mario fights are on or above the level of the dude who predated Ganon.

Ultimately, even Ganon can only be jumped on so many times.

Let us not forget the fact that being killed and being sent to Hades didn't even slow him down, and he went on to eventually stop a literally multiversally-threatening enemy.

As for prophecies, Mario canonically does not give a single fuck for how prophecy is supposed to go.

Plus I think he might actually be the more effective wizard. At least as it pertains to setting things on fire.

Oh yeah I forgot: Tanuki Suit + Star kills literally anything. Even the few things stars don't normally kill. It's the only way to kill those flashy lights in Mario 3.
