So, important question. Which server's everyone on? Everyone being the people 'round here, not everyone in the world. Because there's more than one server, now.
So yeah, answer me, NOW. Because I have a Death Ray. |

Eh. I'm killing time on Everquest since I already have an account till the World of Warcraft betas finish and I can hear some + and -s of it. I'm curious though, I hear so much about "Archetypes" and "powers" but I really don't understand exactly how they balance out the fact that there are hundreds of super-heroes.
Do you sit at the bank with a team of 5 and wait for "a Bank Robber" to spawn? Then you wait for "A Bank Robber Crimelord" spawns and drops the rare item? then you can sell the rare item to other superheroes for money? I don't understand if there's some sort of magic item/trading/monetary system at all in this game and I understand even less as to the character building and levelup system. *whittles away time for WoW*

As for what I've read, the enemies sometimes drop enhancements (either temporary or permanent) to improve your character. I haven't read anything about items per se. You get your missions by talking to contacts, and the more missions you do the list of contacts grow as well. Finally, I'm assuming that leveling up will give you choices to improve your current powers or add a new one. I don't have a beta account so that is just speculation.

That's pretty much it, actually, Chrono Traveller. (Nice avatar! I never noticed before that prinnies have peg-legs. O_O)
Mirai Gen, I think if you read Brian's latest news update you'll have a lot of your questions answered. Phil_mike, there're ice powers too, but I don't think there are any that are just plain water-based.

Basically there is no camping in this game at all.
What you do is you go get a mission (if in a group, leader chooses mission) from a contact. Then you goto the area of the mission and it usually is (as Brian Stated) go through an area full of baddies to get some item or kill some boss at the end. Then after you beat the mission, you go do a different one. What I like about the game is how your actually going through dungeons and fighting the monsters through it until you reach a boss and kill it, or find said item and take it...usually guarded by a boss anyway. (in all other MMORPGs you etheir cower through a dungeon fighting nothing until you get to a room to camp, or you go through a dungeon of wusses until you get to a room to camp). In other MMORPGs you basically have a group of 8 or so people fighting 1 or 2 monsters at a time. In CoH, when you attack a group of monsters, they are generally in a larger group then your group, in a group of 8, Ive taken down 12 enemies, 10 or so red and 2 purple bosses, and that was in one room, after we had good fun doing that, explore the dungeon some more, and run into more mobs of baddies to kill. Fighting large amounts of monsters and gaining xp for it is something that only before existed in Asherons Call..and well...lets not go there. When it comes to loot there really isnt much, basically you get Inspirations, which are more or less, Diablo-esque one use potions, they can heal life, mana, or increase damage, defense, etc. for a certain amount of time (there is one that ressurects you when you are dead as well). I really like them as it adds to the more fastpacedness of the game. The other type of loot is Enhancements, which you use to enhance your moves. Brian explained in detail about how they are used, and i dont feel like explaining them, so blah. when it comes to characters, I rarely see two characters that look alike (however, at one point I saw 5 guys running around as Matrix Agents that looked all the same except different faces, with names like Agent Smith and stuff...) and its kinda neat just...seeing what people created. Theres also a tons of different characters. While there are only 5 "classes" so to speak, each class has 2 different power sets to choose from, so basically a gun blaster that uses gadgets is considerably different from a fire blaster that uses Ice moves, and so on. There ive typed enough. |

Thanks, Mashirosen. I already knew 'bout the ice powers from the sight, I was just hoping... sigh. I'd so play this game if I didn't have dail-up. and 2 legged deer, I don't think that Fighter can use a computer; that Red Mage would leave the world of Fantasy role-playing; that BM likes games, social interaction, or combinations of the two; or that you'd want to play with Thief, as he'd probably be a hacker. No one likes hackers.

I recently got to fiddle with the game's beta version, as my friend had it. Great stuff, I highly reccommend it.
I created a hero by the name of Ponderous Man, basically a huge guy with maxed-out size and muscles, a red helmet, stupid hero smile, a monocular, a cigar (for giggles), big flaring Saiyan shoulder pads, blue pants, and no shirt. Apparently, he uses duct tape or something on his pads. He was a Magic Blaster, focused on energy blasts and manipulation, specifically powers that make the badguy go flying. Was very fun to thwack a thug with the Energy Thrust power, then blasting him with Energy Blast and Energy Bolts while he was down. *contented sigh*
