I was either:

A) Trying to throw the guy a bone

B) Totally looking at your post and calling you Sith due to brain failure

But really, what's important is that we're looking at Stark Desk's by 2025

You are so very very wrong about that. Old 3D technology has nothing on what we've got now.
Just to clarify I wasn't talking about this:

What is currently used in 3D films and I guess tv now, has been around for at least 10 years. In terms of new technology or the advancement of current technology, it's old and I personally find it doesn't add anything to the movies that use it and in most cases detracts. Is it better than red and blue filters? Sure. Does it do anything significantly different than that aside from looking slightly better? Not really.

That said, a lot of people seem to be enjoying it so I might be undervaluing it by thinking it's just a fad.

Display technology is still lagging a bit at least in stuff thats out there for consumers. Recording technology though is about half of the 3D technology and that has undergone some radical changes. A lot of the reasons we never really saw a lot of 3D movies is because 3D movies required special cameras that couldn't handle the kinds of shots that directors wanted. More and more 3D cameras are becoming as capable as more standard movie cameras which is why the sudden explosion of 3D movies. Certainly you couldn't do anything remotely like live TV with older style 3D cameras. This even includes the polarized and shutter type of 3D. There is a lot to the technology that we as consumers never get to see.
