Briam might say that Chaos will arrive in five minutes, and then still cram fifty strips into that time frame.
I hope so.

Now THAT is their only hope.

Calling it now, the anticlimax to top all the anticlimaxes this story has had to offer: The Light Warriors return to fight Chaos, only to discover White Mage has already destroyed him, and this allows the LWs to basically do whatever they want to the world, contradicting Sarda's "You don't get to do that because time is immutable".

White Mage's statement regarding this? "I'm God, I just willed Chaos dead, and then I altered how causality works, proving Sarda's depressing view wrong".

The end.

Hey, that sounds like it might actually happen.

Except it never ever will because it's really silly. And not in the good way.

And except it also never will because White Mage doesn't have any more influence on the universe than anyone else, and this time I'm too lazy to dig up Brian's quote. :p

Considered how OOC White Mage's dialogue was in my 'theory', I took it for granted that it'd be recognized as the parody it was.

...

But now I kinda want it to happen. Aside from the sucking part. :-P

I miss WM as much as you do, but we all have to learn that time moves on.

...Especially if you go into inns.

Not in the 8BT world. Time doesn't move on, it's all there all at once. WE move on, we move through it. It functions like space. I'm not down the street, but down the street still exists. I'm just not there yet.

This hearkens back to the disturbing idea that our existences are not our own, and there's no such thing as choice, and it's very depressing. ... But I'm not trying to start that discussion again, I participate in that discussion enough on LOST forums.

In any event, I'm sure 8BT won't end too depressing or soul-crushingly bleak, since Brian would never want to depress his readers.

::Cue laughter::

Thank you, I'm here all week.

How could it end bad? The Light Warriors die? Well, they're horrible people so the world just got saved from many attrocities. Black Mage finally kills everyone? The comic's underdog just won, it'd probably end up on TVTropes crowning moment of awesome page. White Mage dies? She deserves it fo forcing people to do as she thinks they should and responding with violence or kinapping when they don't. Chaos wins? The 8-bit world sucks anyway (in the sense of living there would suck).

Let's face it, no matter how the comic ends some significant group of readers willbe happy. Anyone who can't deal with constant anti-climaxing likily wouldn't still be reading this far in. Hell, weren't the last few fake outs met with overall praise?

Then again, Black Belt fit pretty much the same description and look how that worked out for him.
