He do have emotional connection with White Mage becaues if he didn't he would have got very mad at Fighter for getting kissed by her. And also don't forget the time he almost save a town from water for White Mage. A person as evil as Black Mage have to have some emotinal connection to almost do a good deed. The only thing that stop him was Sarda.

Blackmage will try and destroy the world and then will somehow accidentally stumble into being it's saviour. Calling it!

Either that or we'll find out Sarda was using the Orbs to wait until Blackmage(or anyone) went nuts with power so that the Orbs could absorb that power and summon Chaos into the world. Because Sarda hates the world because he can't control it.

honestly, i think Brian has proved himself to not be that big of a jerk when it comes down to it. yes, he is... but he also has connections with this story, i doubt he'll just dismiss it. he possibly wants to see the same things with the characters we do

Brian isn't looking for anything logical like money. He can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Brian just wants to watch the world burn.

Well actually, he considered just ending the comic abruptly, but decided against that. Because he loves us.

Long story short: I don't think he has connections with the story, so much as he has standards for storytelling.

I think Brian just takes pride in anything he does (nothing wrong with that of course!), and wouldn't want to cheapen the ending of an eight year old project. Of course, when it appeared as though he did end the comic in a bizarre way (the dream thing), people did E-Mail him, telling him the ending fit perfectly with the comic. So honestly, what kind of ending would make him a jerk? The real 8-Bit fans will probably be satisfied with whatever he puts up there. Even if the comic just ended tomorrow, someone will see how "Andy Kaufman" that is and appreciate it.

But I don't think he'll do that. I also don't know what he wants the characters to do.

Here is ending: everyone suddenly reveals they are wearing mask and every one is actually Black Belt except Drizz´l who then performs seppuku which is what most of readers/fans would do too.
