Not all liberals are stupid hippies. I am liberal. I hate PETA. I dont believe I will live to see the dramatic effects of global warming, and as such, I dont care, in fact, I take great joy inm knowing im fucking up the world for the younger generation. I am a bitter little man.

On that note, you do realize nobody's criticizing liberal people here right? When I say Liberal, I mean the actual Canadian political party which is funding this project. In fact, I'm quite sure they're all elitist and not hippies at all.

Nope. If they were hippies, they'd be more like the Green party. Which incidentally, doesn't get a lot of votes.
By comparison, the Liberal party has a much less idealistic approach to the whole 'save the planet' thing. They at least realize that not everybody wants to give up their car and use a bike to get to work on the other side of the city.

Second off, the typeface is designed as an attention-getter. And kids would wear it because they could get away with it. Not everyone would wear it for the message, but it gets it out on the street. Also, it's not so much about actual legislation as people being stuffy and unable to take a joke. For comparison, look at Jack Thompson. He's trying to do the same thing with video games. "Coolness" is a very arbitrary concept, like "religious/family values." I don't like the government legislating morality here in America, either. Not because they're conservative values, but because not everyone agrees with them and those who don't shouldn't have to be held to them.* @ Khael!: Our area is already converting to LED traffic lights. It's expensive to switch over, but it's projected to pay for itself in the next few years. As you said, they're low-power, bright, and last forever. Plus, they can come in pretty much any color you need. I've seen single-color bulbs in red, gold, green, blue, and white so far, and I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to do more. The only problem you get with them is they tend to start slowly burning out if you overpower them. And the only problem I have with the traffic lights is that the green ones are just green, thereby negating all the blue we've put in them over the years to help the colorblind. I wouldn't have expected them to go all out and just have a blue light, but they could have thrown a few blue diodes in. It's just an example of a lack of social change to meet with new possibilities. Maybe in the future. *To the extent that it's not hurting anyone. We still need laws against theft, violence and everything else, but I don't agree with the government making people's personal choices for them, regardless of whether or not I agree with what they choose to do.
