I totally agree, he's always complaining about his art style anyway. Atleast with super effective, we get something halfway decent. Thats what irks me with artists like him, their always trying to change their style.

Well, there's nothing wrong with changing your style. In fact, I like it when I see a style grow and refine or change as time goes by if the artist started out a bit sloppy.

Now, take things like Dominic Deegan and (title removed) which never change from thier lackluster, extremely amaturish art style. Also, there's Buckley, who beleives there is nothing wrong with his art style at all.

I wanted to write something in defence of Super Effective! seeing that it is actually quite the cute and fun comic for the old-school Pokémon fan. Then I read the latest strip.

What the fuck, Scott? I know gross-out humour is a staple of VG-Cats, but that bulimic Squirtle joke was completely out-of-place. I can deal with the Pokémon are actually very visceral strip because it brings to light one of the commonly ignored facets of the Pokémon world, but something like this is pointless and not funny for an internet audience (your audience), which has already been exposed to material even worse. Your punchline is just creepy.

I really hope this is the only instance of such jokes in the entire comic, because this one has a lot of promise.

That's fine and well right up until you turn your character into the magical singularity angel.

Fuck no I just can't be having with that.

Nevermind that you essentially end the arc with a naked amputee falling out of the sky.

Really? I enjoy 38. It's like S*P but old tyme. I guess you have to hang out with old people a lot to get some of the jokes though...which I have so that might explain why I find it funny

As far as comics that shouldn't be...well I know a lot of people around here like it but I'm not a big fan of VG Cats...about 2 1/2 years ago I still liked it but then it just stopped being funny, stopped updating, and also I met the guy who makes it and he's kind of a douche. I mean he's not a bad person...he just doesn't really seem to want to talk to the fans. So I just kind of grew out of it. I've be come more into story based comics I guess...stuff like Errant Story, Star Cross'd Destiny, stuff like that...I still like other ones that aren't but like I said I grew out of VG Cats awhile ago.

But naw, fuck that shit, bring back the one-shot physicist namedropping gags!
You have a point, but honestly, I'm in the camp of people who enjoyed his one shot gags more than this current arc, which I find to be a load of technocrap. That said, I can't really give him shit for moving towards that, I respect if Diaz would prefer to do a real story instead of short jokes, and obviously he's still popular enough that you can't dismiss it as a really bad move. What I do hate about it, is how Diaz has basically shit all over his fans since the Hob storyline began. Once Dresden Codak started getting popular, he quit his job, and started asking for people to buy DC merchandise in order for him to support himself, which is fine. But since then, updates have only gotten slower, which really makes you wonder what he's doing to justify his fans supporting him.

I agree that some of his humor isn't very funny. And right now he's not updating because he doesn't think any of his crap is funny enough. This is the kind of webartist who is still allowed to even be called an artist. Some of his art is quite ugly too I gotta be honest. I almost hope he's reading this...

No! Don't jinx it!

White Ninja. Now, I've only seen a select few comics and the Dr. McGuest one, but to me it seems like it's trying to be one of those comics without a punchline. The problem is that lacks any of imagination that's required for that style.

Also, the art's shitty.

For the most part, i dont hate any webcomics, because if they sucked I just wouldn't read them. You do have to make a consious choice to read them, and its hard to hate something you can more easily ignore.

The only thing I hate is when I used to like something, then it turned to crap. I liked early Megatokyo honestly, but then it turned to an emo angst-fest. A rather cliche one at that. Plus the spoty updates.

Personally, I never got this arguement. There are sprite comics and xkcd, so why does a static art style make it bad? I mean what, if it did improve it would retroactively make the older stuff better?
