Synk, I really feel like, if my professors had been teaching what they knew, like virtue ethics or mind-brain duality, they could have taught some outstanding classes. As it was, they were stuck teaching intro level stuff that they didn't care about, and I was stuck in the crossfire of their apathy. Hence why I posted it it a thread that didn't contain "hate" in the title. I don't hate them; I hate intro Philosophy, which is the only philosophy I'm allowed to take. Edit: Also, I implied that my experiences in philosophy were all that philosophy had to offer, which is mistaken, factually, but I thought the idea of the thread was to express frustrations in a humorous manner, and, as such, expressed my frustrations with my former classes in an exaggerated manner that I thought would be amusing. Of course, now I've ruined what joke there may have been by explaining it. I guess this edit and the proceeding paragraph should have been "Fuck you, Sync; you can't tell me what to do!" Too late to fix it now, I guess.
As for Mauve, I'm as sympathetic to the whole "God, you're skinny" thing as I've ever been. It has been a couple years since I've said that, so I thought it worthwhile to repeat myself.

I haven't done a lot of philosophy- the courses I did were pretty bollocks- but I've hung out in the philosophy department lots and chatted to people and read their books and it was much more interesting doing it that way than through courses. I assume high-level courses are most interesting and open structure as history which I did was like that- 1st year courses were all about teaching you historiographic techniques and overviews of subjects then by the time you get to 3rd year the class was just massive arguments in tutorials with maybe 1 irrelevant lecture in the week just to teach you the important background.
But that is quite a general complaint- lecturers doing things they are not interested in because you need to fill out the timetable and some things need to be taught. It just turns off the students and the lecturers. I've had to do tutorials in things I'm not at all interested in and it's a horrible experience all round. Philosophy actually makes more sense in my mind than economics- a lot of which is just arbitrary assumptions, bullshit justifications and ridiculous starting and ending points whereas philosophy is just like "Throw out everything, it's all shit" as a starting point- but that's just me probably. |

Kids and teenagers are the worst at it because they aren't smart enough to know better. (There are exceptions) :P So I have a similar but opposite problem.

I guess I should have thought that rant out a bit before I posted it. Now that I reread it, I kinda feel like a jerk for whining so much.

I wouldn't. Being harassed on account of your body type is a legitimate complaint, whether you're getting trouble for being slightly too wide or for not being quite wide enough. After all, either way you're basically being judged and found wanting for not measuring up to a stranger's personal opinion of what "healthy" or "attractive" is, which is utter bullshit.

Unless it's my personal opinion.
I just wanna make sure we're clear on the fact that my personal opinions are the end all be all of attractiveness. Also: Everything else. Lucky for all of you I have really low standards, so most of you are probably good.

I wasn't telling you to do anything?
I was just providing a positive counter-example to your negative one, mans. I wasn't out to ruin your joke or claim anything of what you said was wrong or unlikely or whatever.

Philosophy of Science was one of the best classes I've ever taken, though I've gotta say I liked it most when we were off topic or chilling at a bar on Friday afternoons. It was the perfect mix of people who were science-minded but also happy to sit around and bullshit. Intro philosophy was ehn, but better than I expected it to be.
