Magic apparently exists enough to allow the later, and it would be a little strange if the Governments didn't have some department devoted to monster busting. Secret Societies in general are all the rage in these settings too, or so I hear!

I can neither confirm or deny that something like this was already planned.

That said, I didn't want something like the summoners of the last RP to limit you guys this time around. If you want to be brutal, murdering, one-eyed one-horned flying people eater, that's up to you.

On that note, have the Murderers been publicized to the wider population? If so, what is the current "Official" explanation?

Well, stuff like what happened at the Animal Shelter is going to catch a lot of media attention. But since some of the others are hunting transients and such, it might not draw as much attetion. The media has also caught wind of the rapid rise in "missing-person-cases" as of late, and some are linking them to the rash of brutal murders, but right now that's more to draw ratings than based on any actual evidence. The police have instated a policy of making no comment on active cases (which is to say that Nearstaph is being saddled with most of the murders so the rest of the department can keep on with business as usual, and he doesn't have time to jibber jabber with the press).

Because there aren't any.

Well, unless you mean the bodies seem butchered by something that isn't human. But, the thing is? The amount of ritualization that kind of killing suggests would make it difficult to believe that the killer would change their 'ritual' between corpses on a whim. Case and point, Lazy Man's 'victim' was electrocuted (then eaten), while any that Riley killed would probably appear to have overdosed (heavily) before being eaten. Each Paradox seems to kill differently.

It isn't likely that these murders/incidents were committed by the same person. They're also appearing all over the city - its rather unthinkable that someone who works so hard to simulate animal attacks (ritualized killers tend to like routine) changes his hunting grounds so fast. Further, the victims have no link to one another, that we can see. Yes, its suspicious that all these deaths/missing person reports are occurring at once, but its far more likely to be the work of multiple (possibly related) killers, than any single person.

The scale involved is, quite simply, too big for one person. Before this week (a lot of us went Paradox this week), perhaps a single killer would be reasonable, but the sudden spike (and it would be sudden) would rule out a single killer effectively. Plus, the police should have been aware of the sudden sites of slaughter in the back-allies, even if they're not receiving much publicity, before hand. My discussions with Overcast suggest these are...very bloody, and have been happening for a month. Rather difficult to over look consistantly.

In conclusion: Maybe it's a Gang War, maybe it's a Copy Cat Killer, maybe it's a Murder Cult – the fact remains, it is very, very, very, unlikely that one person is behind all this.

True, but outside of the brutality of the attacks, and the fact the corpses were devoured, the actual methods of attacks vary pretty wildly. Incognito’s killing of the girl is nothing like what Fiend does to his prey, which is different from what Sorm did in the animal shelter. So while similar, the different methods of execution would probably be enough to dispel the idea of a single killer (at least, if what TV leads me to believe is true and serial killers tend to adopt a favored method of killing).

Also, while you make some good points, keep in mind that not all the victims have been found. batgirl's first kill went up in a fire, AB's is out in the woods, etc. So while it has spiked in the last few days, it might not be as noticeable as you think.

But yes, I tend to post when I think I need to rather than any set time table or anything. If things are humming along without me, I’ll let it go for awhile.

That said, I'll like post in one way or another tomorrow.

Upon further reflection, I'm afraid I simply don't have the time or energy to participate in this RP, I'm afraid.

It may actually be highly detrimental to my health if I try to pay attention, so, I'm going to drop!

I apologize to those of you who were looking forward to playing with me, but I certainly hope you can get something out of the RP. May make an effort to return later on, but that depends on how far it gets before circumstances improve!

Also, I'm kind of wondering if our monsters can be picky about killing. I can see Eldonna dissecting her prey and eating certain organs, just to keep the medical theme going with her.
