Maaaan I just don't understand getting so worked up arguing against someone's headcanon.
Like, it makes sense to argue if I were to declare that Squall dying at the end of Disc 1 was my actual objective interpretation of canon intended by FFVIII's writers, because then I'd clearly be delusional, but I've actually conceded the opposite, namely that yes, it's absolutely true that everything that happened in FFVIII is intended to be 'real' and that Squall isn't killed there. My headcanon just transforms a game I'd despise into a game I honestly wouldn't mind playing again some time.

I'm not throwing a fit about your headcanon. I only talked about how the "sudden changes" weren't that sudden and also had begun in the first disc.
My other post is just commentary on FF8's writing. Sorry if it seems antagonistic, that was not my intent. |

Exalted:
The void is actually just a portal to Nigruna, the Shinma of Existence (who defines existence by not existing). Foffles is actually the most heroic (canon) figure in Exalted, and took the deal with the Neverborn because he knew no one else would know about Deathlords and someone had to stop them--he has spent the last few thousand years purposefully fucking up everything they do and scaring the other deathlords out of doing anything too big or overt. The Neverborn know this, and his punishments (and those of Magnificent) are attempts to make him hate creation enough to honor his promise. It's also why he was punished for his part in stopping the plague but Eyes wasn't. There's lots more but they aren't as interesting and/or would require spoiling potential plot points if I ever GM exalted again (which I probably won't, but yanno). Flash Gordon: Ming the Merciless actually just really wants to fuck Flash and just keeps trying to kill him in a 'If I can't have him NOBODY can' thing. Dragon Age: Flemeth is an Old God, which is why she wanted to preserve the spirit of Urthemiel, has her own dragon form, has been around for so long, and was able to escape death from the Warden by putting a piece of her spirit in a necklace. The Maker is dead. Andraste was an abomination who was bound with a very powerful spirit of hope or freedom or some such nonsense, which is how she performed all of her miracles. Being the 'Bride of the Maker' was a euphemism for joining with this spirit. When she was killed, so was The Maker. Corollary: The seat of the maker as a massive font of power in the center of the fade DOES exist, and WAS corrupted by the magisters leading to the dark spawn and the corruption of the Old Gods (who used to be alright, if maybe a little dark/unknowable, instead of trying to exterminate all life). Addendum A: Hawke ended up going through the Eluvian Merril was repairing and ended up there. Addendum B: Warden going through the Eluvian with or after Morrigan is most canon ending. Addendum C: All the Dragon Age games are leading to a plot taking place at the font of the maker where the corruption is cleansed, or attempted to be cleansed, by a team up of Hawke, the Warden, and whomever you play in Inquisition and whatever other games. Annnnd I dunno, there's more head canons I've developed but I can't think of any right now.

Making it happen.

I'd like to believe that in the Warcraft universe, basically everything after WC3 w/rt continued factional divides is, directly or indirectly, the fault of the player characters.
Languages are actually really, really easy to pick up, and the language divide only actually exists among small children and the PCs. Orcs and Humans and Night Elves and Forsaken (especially Forsaken) can talk to each other with no problem, when they aren't murdering each other over one slight or another. It turns out your player character is actually just really dumb and/or lazy. They have no interest in being a productive member of society, or learning more than the bare minimum required to interact with their fellow faction-members, and really just want to fight, all day long. Which is something they're very, very good at. Especially against other PCs. The vast majority of people, Horde and Alliance, want to just live out their lives in peace, but via the continued violent action between the PCs, the faction leaders see fit to continue escalating the war efforts, building weapons of war and recruiting in ever greater numbers, since their people are dying on the front lines, dammit. Sure, in their fighting, the rank-and-file soldiers will do battle, and die, and make some small gains here and there. But absolutely nothing compares to the swathes of death and fury your character leaves behind when they tear through an enemy camp, singlehandedly and in mere minutes, tipping the balance of power wherever they go. Thereby spurring further escalation.

That's an interesting taking on The Maker though and actually makes sense. I wouldn't be surprised though if they bullshit up some excuse. As for what type of spirit, you'd have to go by the Seven Virtues, so maybe Hope, like you mentioned or Faith. (Either one works.) It also wouldn't be surprising if the Faith wrote up those scriptures as a control method for the populace and simply used (malevolent spirit)abominations to cement their position on on controlling mages. The fact that people feel the need to use blood magic might also be a ploy by the Faith. As a reason to have the Templars and secure their own power position in order to create Theocratic Oligarchies(Or Police States). Commander Meredith in the second one is a good example. As was probably the Archmage for how they force Mages into a corner to rely on Blood Magic, so the Templars can continue to use them as examples for why the Faith should be on top. I could be completely wrong though and maybe she was just a well intentioned extremist who went too far. As for the Imperium and their version... I don't think I have anything for that, since the games haven't elaborated much on them outside of: They can use blood magic freely, they can own slaves, they caused the Blights and they use to be the number one empire. All in all, a bunch of aristocratic mages that think pretty highly of themselves. My Own HC stuff: I can't really contribute one of my own, but one big one I've seen floating around was the VR Theory for MGS 2, which does make a whole helluva lot of sense. My Dark Souls 2 headcanon is that the PC Undead is high as almighty balls, and that's how taking an elevator up from a windmill with open sky above it leads you to end up in the middle of a fucking volcano.
