They had to wind the development of the crew back a bit to set up the tension about keeping River and Simon on the ship, and then it makes some huge changes over the course of the film to the crew roster. It works fine as a stand-alone but I wouldn't want to see it taken as a basis for a continuation.

Sometimes I do end up wanting to watch things everyone talks about.
I feel that it worked out for the better that I saw Serenity before watching the series.
I didn't feel lost or confused -- the movie re-explains things existing fans already knew well enough -- and was motivated equally by the banter and interactions and by the setting to pursue Firefly.

Eh, I liked the movie. But I would've probably liked more of the show better.
What's this talk about comics, I didn't know they'd continued it in comic form?!

Indeed they did, and theyre written by Whedon to boot. But the comic series is called "Serenity". I'm guessing Fox or whichever channel it was owns the name rights to Firefly?

Firefly is pretty decent but it's very overrated due to its small but rabid fanbase.
I do find it desk-slammy that the final episode of the show was my favourite episode. A lot of cancelled TV shows end on a low/average note because of how suddenly it has to end, but Firefly's last episode leaves you feeling with a..."But, it was just getting good!" |
