Okay, y'know... you're right.
That IS a personal definition. I'm ALSO trying to help you improve. If you don't like that, go right ahead and ignore me from now on. But to be honest? I understand it when your friends tell you your drawings are only "pretty cool". It's because you have a LOT to improve. Trust me.

Yes, I'm well aware of that. Are you aware I'm fourteen? I've only been drawing for like six years, taking into account the year hiatus I returned from a few months ago. So, yes, I have a lot to improve on. Duh. I never claimed my drawings were perfect or even really good.
Your "constructive" criticism, however, needs to improve a great deal more, as does your art (Well, not NEED, but there is room for improvement, obviously. Your art isn't bad.), but its not my place to point out every one of your inadequacies, as you seem to feel is your duty toward myself. Last edited by TDK; 04-30-2008 at 06:34 PM. |

The way you talk sounds to me like you think pretty highly of yourself in the field of art.
But let's drop it here. You've made up your mind, it seems.

High of myself? Art is one of few things I'm not egotistical (Though not unrightly so, I'm clearly awesome in every conceivable way.) about.
I'm aware I have skill, but I'm probably the least talented person who posts here regularly. But anyway, yes, this should stop before it gets any more abrasive. |

Yeah, don't mind me, I'm just here to ease the tension..
Anyway, for those that don't remember, this sketch that I did, I colored it. Well, the top part atleast (Minus the floating arms). Didn't take too long, but I was really satisfied with the result. The real challenge was coloring in certain parts that were drawn without much detail (For example the chin and teeth). Yep, just tryin to brighten the mood with a fun picture of sunshine and happiness... >>

What do you color with? I like the sorta cel-shaded look your pictures have.

Quick something before bed, inspired by a quote from Dinosaur Comics (I love T-Rex).
Nice job Savage, your self-dude has an almost (dare I say it?) VG Cats look to it. :p Seriously though, that's pretty neat. And also, you dudes gotta relax. I prescribe 10 mg of chill pills. Take one every four hours or I'll send this guy after ya! :p

0_0; So hi. I'm new here... and I guess rather than lurking like the lurker that I tend to be, maybe I should post something... I usually just come and look at other people's stuff. ;| I fail at posting anywhere I go.
Anyway, since my most recent thinger isn't really anything finished, I suppose this thread would be more appropriate for it... I think? I dunno.

Man.. I totally didn't mean for this post to be this long...

For shadows and highlights, I just select the flat color and open the color palette by double clicking on the foreground, and depending which I'm doing (shadow or highlights), I chose a color in a diagonal direction (up for highlights and down for shadows) from the initial color. Here's a picture for better explanation: Why diagonally? Because I think that giving it more saturation helps it feel more 'real'. Of course, you can experiment with color choice, it all just ocmes down to personal preference really. Now, for the actual shading, I choose the solid brush. Those fuzzy-edged brushes are really no good when highlighting and shading. And what I do is set the opacity reeeeeally low.I usually mess around with about 8-12% opacity. After that, you just click, click, click to where you see the shadowing and highlights seem fit. I find this tutorial explanation pretty well. Of course, that tutorial uses different brush settings and what not, but the process I use is identical to what is in the video. THA: Dude, that's awesome. The folds on his pants seem like it's too much, though. Also, his torso seems a bit too long. His nose looks like it got smushed and to me, it looks a bit painful. Cool drawing none the less. Celes: Woo! New blood! Alright, I'd like to start off by saying that this: Quote:
And whether it should go here or not, despite the title, this is a general post your art thread. Whether it be a sketch or a drawing that's been done on the computer.

:3 Thanks for the warm welcome, Savage~
Well... I don't think I'll ever stop seeing my stuff as sucking, even if I improved leaps and bounds from here, so I guess I'd better leave it at a "thank you" before I get any more self-deprecating. XD And yes, that was supposed to be a Megaman/Okami crossover thing for the deviantArt contest thingy... xD I totally left doing anything until the last minute though... and I guess I was sort of hard up for inspiration when I never played it... hence the Capcom crossover. @_@;; I don't really draw mechanical things at all, so I suppose it's a valid excuse for me to be bad at them. Hehe...
