I defended Marc's overarching argument on the ME lore fitting the notion that a Prothean could very easily have such an accent. I just don't understand how you get "privileged asshole" out of anything I've typed.

Snake: I don't think anyone has said or honestly implied you're racist. Liz was pointing out the irony in your choice of examples, not that your point was necessarily bad.

However, you probably should stop white knighting Ramary and let him explain himself, as to whether it's the accent or something else that bugs him.

Though honestly, the VA doesn't sound bad/poorly acted to me. Especially considering it's all combat lines so I can't even really judge what it will be like in proper dialogue. It just has a strange (African, I believe East African, specifically, but don't quote me on that) accent, but that's okay with me because why wouldn't it be?

I didn't make an overreaching lore argument, at all. That was just you shoving words into my mouth. I quoted a buried youtube comment that pointed out no one cared that one Alien was Russian, and the other Texan, but as soon as an African shows up all the tables must be flipped in outrage. No, I'm saying that you and other members of the fanbase are more critical of non-white and non-white sounding characters in fiction. That this is the case for most people is pretty much generally accepted fact by anyone who knows what the hell they're talking about. Am I saying you're racist? I guess. You are probably a little bit racist on at least a subconscious level because you were born and raised in an UNBELIEVABLY racist society that likes to tell itself it totally isn't racist.

This has nothing to do with anything. Racism, like many things, is in degrees. Just because you don't associate yourself with mentally or agree with "those racists" doesn't mean that there isn't underlying racism at work.

Because that's a long list.

And again, I'm not sure how I could be any clearer on this: I have nothing against the accent. It's possible to separate the accent from the voice actor! And it's similarly possible to acknowledge that there are plenty of African voice actors who'd sound pretty badass with their accents. Like, if Djimon Hounsou were voicing that role, I can practically guarantee you I'd love it. Hounsou's awesome. His voice is smexy.

(Now watch as I quickly become extremely embarrassed when it's revealed that Djimon Hounsou is voicing the Prothean)
