And Heroes has shitty special effects too. I mean, good for a TV series, but still shitty compared to what you would expect from a movie. Luckily they tend to stick to powers on Heroes that aren't all that hard to pull off, and what little I've seen still seems pretty good.

I do remember, however, some dude shooting fire from his palms and then groaning at how terrible it looked.

Animation, whether western, eastern, northern, southern, or Alpha Centurian is far superior for anything 'fantastic' (or 'spectacular'). If it involves people flying around on speeders, swinging from webs, throwing fire from orifices/limbs, or otherwise doing things more complicated than kung fu (and live action series tend to make most kung fu look like shit, too), it's never going to look like anything more than absolute shit in a TV series.

Even movies have only been able to pull it off effectively for the last 20-30 years, before that even movie budgets tended to create sucktastic special effects when it came to super powers that were more impressive than super strength and flight.

I've got nothing against Smallville, it practically got me into DC, but at some point everyone and their mother got superpowers and it just ruined the tone. A Spider-Man series could take more than a few cues from it in regards to the angst and the protection of the secret identity.

There are a lot of camera tricks a series could employ in regards to the wall crawling that were in the film. They could have him make the web shooters after two episodes and when there's no money for webs "poof" he ran out.

exactly my point. Heroes works because they were aware of the limits and didn't give people things like anamotronic limbs. Spider Man and alot of his villians just wouldn't work well

...have you actually watched the animated series? Spectacular or the one from the 90's. They dont need tips on how to do that well

Its just a simple excuse to not have them all the time.

Yes I have seen the animated series but the way they did things wouldn't always work in live-action.

Whatever. Lets just wait and see what the studios.

which is why they should remain animated. Haven't you learned from the live action anime movies, and those were movies.

They could just re-run Spectacular Spider-Man (and Batman: The Animated Series, for that matter) in primetime and pretend it's Sunday night on FOX but it's action instead of comedy. Or new series of those, anyway. They would just have to properly advertise the cartoons as for the adult level of appreciation, which is probably difficult to do without interposing needless swearing or adult humor like you have in say Family Guy or the Simpsons.

You are insinuating that Family Guy is funny.

I'm sorry ,this seems like just so much "lol anime are bettarz"

Spectacular Spider-man very much took itself seriously. I don't recall it ever mocking itself as a cartoon, getting overly foruth-wall breaking, or lampshading many tropes. Sure, Spider-man would make jokes, but that's his whole personality, and he had just as many serious, and emotional moments as he had of mocking his villains(but not the show or the concept of superheroism, mind you)

If nobody had superpowers, what would the show be about? Spider-man always fighting Kingpin? no thank you, we call that Daredevil.

The problem with most Super-hero live action series is in concept. Most super-hero concepts by design recquire excessive use of effects and such. The most acceptable way to circumvent that is to start with a concept that is low on effects recquirements, non-powered, subtle costumes, low-tech gadgets, strictly low-key powers. Most of the "Good" characters have issues with at least one or two of those.

This is why Smallville got bad real fast. The concept of "Superman Pre Superman" flys in the face of a few issues
1: Without powers and kryptonian noise, it's just another teen drama.
2: If he does'nt eventually become superman, it's just another teen drama, but with cheesily done superpowers.

A Spider-man that's not super-acrobatic, shoots webs, and fights people who shoot lightning would'nt be a very good spider-man.
Quote:

Yeah, see, no. The reason Spectacular is so good is that the way they do things is'nt a creative choice, it's the way spider-man IS, and few series or projects got that one hundred percent the way it did.

Not doing exactly that in any medium is not doing a proper Spider-man.Live action TV can't do that decently enough.

Because of this. off of the top of my head

Vulture: Big wings sometimes they are blades, flys around
Lizard: Giant lizard monster, super strength, tail, is a GIANT LIZARD
Electro: lightning powers
Sandman: Turns into sand, can morph his body.
Rhino: Giant Rhino suit, impervius, super strong
Scorpion: Cybernetic scorpion suit, robotic scorpion tail, may or may not shoot acid/energy
Green Goblin: Super strength/speed/agility flying evil bat-board, explosives, laser fingers, all manner of crazy gadgetry that would make batman get all freudian
Doctor Octopus: Robotic Limbs.

all of those would look horrible with TV level effects.

You explained that very well and I am now changing my opinion. Also I don't prefer anime over western animation. Such different styles can't be compared and its the individual works that stand out. I just go to them for different things.
