Well I think its important to remember besides Winston all of them are well educated scientists even if they dont show it. Egon was just the most overt one. Though Winston is probably the only well grounded one.

That whole traveling through time busting ghosts premise? That was awesome just to clear what up...I mean that sounds really cool...maybe too cool to make sense as a movie but damn time travel is usually pretty sweet. See: Back to the Future, Time Bandits, Timeline (the book not the movie) and many, many more. Admittedly it can be not so sweet but we are talking about the Ghostbusters here.

If Bill and Ted could do time travel comedy, so could the ghostbusters.

However, replacing proton packs with wands?

I wonder how well a Ghostbusters remake would turn out. On the one hand I always think there are a fair number of minor pacing and exposition issues in the originals that could be easily fixed and make very awesome movies even more awesome, on the other that classic 80's comedy atmosphere would almost certainly get lost and we just can't have that.

They did do the video game, and it turned out... okay, but I see where you're coming from with the '80's comedy' vibe.

In a remake they could tone down the Venkman, since we're now a safe distance away from any kind of furor over Bill Murray's default comedy persona.

The game's writing would have been better if it wasn't just the first movie plus new names and Castle Shandor.

I will say this: There would probably be a very high likelyhood that a Ghostbusters remake would be directed by Michael Bay.
