If there was absinth in it I guarantee that was where the licorice taste came from. Absinth is anise-flavoured and that's the same flavour compound, plus absinth is pretty overpowering anyway.

I had a similar experience, except that I swallowed before my lazy-arse tongue registered the problem.

The fact that I had the taste still in my mouth didn't help the subsequent nausea of sour milk sitting in my stomach.
