The end of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty sucked. Y'know what I'm talking about, right? You beat the tanker with Snake, and then you're treated to a 10 hour interactive ending of suck.

Thanks Hideo.
Totally, completely disagree.

I believe all fans of the Metal Gear Solid series who disliked or hated Metal Gear Solid 2 really didn't understand what the game was trying to do at all. I'm serious. (example).

So many people rant and rave about Raiden without understanding why a non-Snake person was chosen, and specifically, why an archetype like Raiden's was chosen;. How many times will people whine abotu only playing Snake for five seconds until they realise why that was so? Most people rant and rave about the pointlessly convoluted plot when they don't realise how amazingly simple yet intricate it is.

Yes, there is such a thing as 'just not liking' MGS2. But 90% of the criticisms I've ever heard from fans is just total bullshit.

The entire series, in my opinion, is a masterpiece, and a "beacon" of what gaming truly can be among all other games. 2 is not excluded. It is included, for so many reasons.

So, in worst ending terms, let's go with the Paper Mario (Super Mario RPG) series. A parade? Gimme. a fuckin'. Break. Then again, the entire series does have a paper-thin (double-entendre sandwhich, ohhh) plot, and prides itself on being silly and the like. Still. I wish it would be more than "oh, yeah, I saw all those guys! ...When I played the game! ...Which I already did! ...Heh! There they are again!"

Is this thread really complete without tim roger's expert input? I think not.

Love this game as I do, I can't love its ending. You spend a hundred-and-forty-something hours spelunking dungeons and becoming intimately familiar with dozens of villages and cities of multiple time periods, and the most they can do at the end is drop you off in each city for mere seconds, letting you walk around and talk to NPCs who all say the same thing? And then, when you leave the city you're in, you automatically board your little ship-thing and fly to the next town? Please. That's just not fair.

The ending then takes further steps away from logic when it portrays the hero going out with his father as a fisherman in the closing moments. What the hell is up with this? Did not, at some pointing the game, the hero found his own city, which, by now, is grown into a giant casino or nunnery? Can't we just go hang out there, and be king of the bunny-girls or nuns or some shit?

Not fair.
So. Fucking. True.

I've always thought Resident Evil 4's ending sucked. I've always called RE4 Metal Gear Evil, or Resident Gear, which ever you prefer, and this game copies Metal Gear solid in so many aspects, including the ending, which involves our hero and the heroine on a Jetski having just escape the evil compound. Sound familliar?

And it was so damn corny! I'm going: "I just defeated one of the lamest final bosses ever, and this is the crap they're showing me? Mercenaries better make up for this!" It did, but that's not the point.

One could suppose that Assignment Ada had a better, and more "true" ending to the plot, but it was still kinda corny cause Wesker's your average evil scientist dick. Just with glowing eyes and all that.

I could tell that the plot would have some down points, especially with the opening plot, half the stupid things Leon said, the obviously MGS inspired Radio communication sequences, all the stupid things Leon did (Hey, I've already shot every villager that's looked menacing so far, but hey! This New, Giant guy who obviously looks like he's in charge of them and is super stong isn't worth shooting, I'll just fly kick him!)

Gah. Fun game, but bad, bad story. And voice acting. The dog was cool.

Half disagree. I don't think that watching a movie for ten, fifteen minutes in between parts of great action really count as "a beacon of what gaming can become." Granted, there are very badass scenes in Metal Gear Solid, and I really do enjoy the game series, but the countless number of cutscenes would endlessly annoy me.

However, I do agree that DwaGH, your post was a little off-topic and very irrelevent. MGS2's 'ending', as you called it, was well into twenty hours and well over three fourths of the game itself. And, for that, I fail to see how playing as Raiden was so utterly horrifying that it completely destroyed Metal Gear Solid 2 as an enjoyable game.

I reserve the right to have an opinion without other people crawling down my throat about how I decide to phrase such an opinion. Likewise I respect that they reserve the right to phrase their opinions about my opinions in any way they like.

*ahem*

Dear Hideo Kojima,

I have been a fan of your work for a very long time. I'm in the process of collecting your entire library of games. Whether I can read Japanese or not. Remember Snatcher? Boy, I sure do. I played through Metal Gear Solid roughly seventeen times. Boy, that was a great game. Good story, too.

I initially felt let down with Sons of Liberty. I felt that my time with Snake was too short, seeing as how I only really just wanted some more time with him in a new game. But, I do get why you wrote him as a secondary character. And, hey, I forgive you for delivering a 'different' Metal Gear game that was also, happily, very familliar regardless.

After watching some of the trailers for Metal Gear Solid 4, I am overjoyed to see that you still have a sense of humor.

Thanks for being one of the few.

- Your biggest fan,
David

Pokemon Snap had the worst ending ever. Wow.

Hm. Interesting. I wouldn't choose "forgive" personally, just because myself...I don't believe there's anything to forgive. I think he did it right. But then again I's a fanboy.

Dungeon Siege single-player mode's ending SUCKS. A text box pops up. Congrats, you killed Gom and saved the realm! You may now port your characters over to multiplayer.
They could have at least changed it a little in the expansion. But NO, it's the same damn text box. The only thing changed is if you conitnue playing, the mayor of Iceville or whatever it's called is all like, Hey, thanks for retrieveing the Staff of Stars! Why don't you keep it as my thanks?
I HOPE DS2 is better.

The ending when I beat Everquest sucked. I mean, I beat the crap out of Ambassador D'Vinn in Crushbone, but all that happened is some guy called me a stupid noob and him and four guys jumped me from behind and killed me. After the three weeks I put into the game, I was quite disappointed.

Yeah, I know. But, at that point, I really didn't feel like devoting another few weeks of my life beating that game again, but having it take longer because I would have to pay attention to which units I use to liberate what town due to alignment, which characters not to get so I can get such-and-such a character, etc.

Of course, in hind sight (a few years later), I wish I hadn't traded it away. I didn't think it would become a rare game. :stressed:

Of all the games I have that I've actually beaten (less then half, actually.) I think the worst ending was Resident Evil: Dead Aim. I mean, honestly, could that be even lamer, or a bigger rip-off of the end of "The Spy Who Loved Me?" (I think that's which Bond move that ending was from)
