Fighter DID seem really torn up that BM died, and he DID show a level (maybe unknowing level) of understanding that BM might NOT do everything he can to get a giant off of him if it fell on him.

He's still got too much of a hero mentality. If all of his friends died, he would pause in shock for a few seconds, get horrendously angry, swordchuck the bastard who did it into a quick and horribly painful end, mourn them again, and then, continue with the quest. If that happened, he would not become cynical and wry, but fiercely determined and serious. It wouldn't even occur to him to question fate until his quest was complete, and even then, fate wouldn't matter. He avenged the fallen, and saved the innocent, and now his friends can rest.

This is gonna seem a little weird, but I think the voices might be...

EPS and Garland.

I mean, EPS's voice is red, and Garland's voice gets eviller every so often.

But I'm at a loss to explain the reference to Gurgu, so I'm probably wrong.

Yeah, it was a novel idea, but it's just not gonna work. The two speaking were both definately on the airship to Gurgu. One of them (gold text) is clearly BM. We'll just never be entirely sure who the other person is until the story catches up. Don't get me wrong, we will continue to argue this in circles until somebody closes up the thread (cuz it fun), but we'll most likely never have a definitive answer out of it.

I brings the hopelessness! Woo!

Could the red box be, you know, RM? He's the one willing to engage in philosophical debate, and at the same time be somewhat flexible. Considering Thief lost all his riches at Gurgu, he's out, and Fighter rarely talks that way, so it *probably* isn't him either (although both he and and RM have the red-colored boxes going in their favor).

Hmm... has it been discounted that it's Super Power BM talking to White Mage before he murders her?

Granted, she was a part of that battle at Gurgu, but a lot of the dialogue seems out of character for WM, namely "We thought it'd be funny." Plus, she is a strong believer in fate (which is what the early red boxes are contradicting), and the blood on WM's robe *could* very well be her own.

The robe is highly suggestive of WM, Fighter's closeness to BM is highly suggestive of himself, but the dialogue seems to fit RM best (even though he and Thief are the characters that BM is less intrinsically connected with, contractual obligations aside).

I wouldn't count out Fighter. We know from the alternate future in #301 that Fighter has potential. His essay on Sword-Chucks has some vocabulary that is currently way above him.

Until seeing 434, I had always thought the light warriors would finally defeat Chaos when EPS walkes in and slaughts them all.
