For both a) being left handed and b) due to the fact that a store owner would be a perfect cover for being a mafiate, due to the "large unscheduled transactions" you call your blackmail and extortion rings.

Guys, guys. We're randomly voting someone for an execution like sensible people, not trying those things like looking at evidence or looking through possessions. That would never work!
Anyone got a d20? My patrol is finished. (Yes, I'm saying that at the end of every post in this game.)

What is the point of flavor if it has no actual bearing on the game?

To give off the theme of said Mafia.
Personally though I think Flavor should give bearing to a game. I just don't think it should literally go "HEY THAT GUY KILLED THAT GUY, IT WAS OBVIOUSLY THEM, LOOK, LOOK! LOOOOOK!" (Example: Mystique!) It shouldn't overpower the game. But no effect just seems kinda... Eh. |

After my game, I came to the conclusion that the flavor should not give anything about the game away. Everyone knew for a fact there was a BG in the game from a nightscene with a successful protection. If you know something to be certain, it'll change the way both the town and the scum play. Quite personally, if someone get saved by a BG in a future game, I'll not say anything and leave the killer wondering if it was a BG, a Roleblocker, that they are unnightkillable, etc. Knowing something is there also interferes with roleclaiming and night actions. The scum, knowing there is a BG, is more likely to pick a player they feel will not be protected. The scum are also less likely to roleclaim the role as a counterclaim could get them lynched. Blah blah blah, etc etc etc.
I could go on, if you all like. My patrol is finished.

I don't know about that. Yes, it does make them play differently; it adds strategy to the mix (Moreso for Mafia than Town though; but then I've yet to get a real Mafia role...) and it brings up paranoia and wild theories for lynching the next day.
Its the reason Day 1s are kind of irritating. There's nothing to go on. You're just randomly lynching a person because of probability/%. "HE DID... SOMETHING... (Not really...)" You just hope someone makes a bad joke and dies for it so the real game can begin with things that happen. If there's continually nothing happening then it gets boring. If no one can make up really good lies or interesting stuff off of event followups it gets stale and drags on because no one's willing to propose anything. Its why I like it carrying an effect. But domineering it, no... That's what raw investigation powers are for. I just don't really see Flavor making people play differently as a flaw, it seems like an improvement to help spice things up. Such as the butcher!!!11 |
