Yes I read the news and no I haven't seen anything along the lines of people being deprived of their unalienable rights. What I do see when reading about people who are detained are people who deserve to be detained. While one can say these things happen all the time, it's pretty hard to believe without solid evidence to back up such claims.
Just because if somebody is detained and the reasons why aren't made completely public doesn't mean that there is no rhyme or reason to warrant it. Last edited by Grandmaster_Skweeb; 11-09-2007 at 05:30 AM. |

Let's put it this way: In Ragnarok Online, your character looks exactly the same as any other character of the same class. The only way to create your own style and individuality is to use different colors and clothing accessories.
So while we may all belong to the same server, we each have the right to wear whatever we want without hearing any complaints. |

Let me add that very rarely do you hear about how any color or accessory combo is the official RaiRO uniform and everyone must wear it to get a sense of unity and dedication to the server, even though there's a great deal more personal investment involved in your server choice than in your school choice.
Maybe the officials have realized that their schools |

Ara ara!

I must say, a lot of the sentiment expressed here feels very alien to me.
Uniforms are the norm here. I've never seen people complain about having uniforms. Maybe a few complaints about tihngs like having to wear ties at my highscool, or keeping the shirts tucked in, but getting rid of them entirely? Never. It simply allows students to be easily identified and could remove some perceived barriers that reduce student mingling. Could be argued to help a sense of belonging when joining the school too. The consistency in dress it allows makes the school look good too. Less screwing around with what's acceptable dress. All this "Help! Help! I'm being oppressed." seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Uniform.
Hmm. See, thing is, uniforms are very normal. :/ They don't actually... do anything. I mean, you could see it as a way to control the masses, but... it doesn't. Not really. People still act the same in and out of uniform. Actually, they're just a tad tamer in uniform, but that's because, you know, they're wearing uniform while in school, and you're supposed to be tame in school or else you're disturbing everyone else from their work. (No, I don't want to hear you talk about chicken butts and how Sonic is a 'hero' while I'm taking notes, shut up). And to be completely honest, it makes it much easier to choose what to wear, and there's no ridiculous "Gucci Table" like in the college cafeterias. (<_<; I'm not actually joking about that, in college- where there's no uniform- there's actually a table for people wearing Gucci items. No such thing in my school. Actually, there really isn't as much drama in my school either. Less bullying and clique groups than you'd expect. Actually, I don't think I've ever seen an actual 'clique group' in my school. Only time I saw something like that was when I saw a bunch of emos/goths/whatever in a mall in America. They all looked like the same person with the same hair and the same skin tone, only in different genders and body sizes. Hmm.) There's also stuff like, you know, looking good in case anyone important comes along (which happens far more often than it should, really. I mean, sure, you're not really looking 'good', but it's much better than seeing guys wearing tight girly pants.) and when you're on a school trip, you won't get lost in the crowd as easily as you would. Little conveniences like that. In the end, the reason so many schools have uniforms is that there's no real, actual, practical inconvenience to them. I understand where a lot of people are coming from, but in the end, it's a lot more convenient for the schools to simply give out uniforms rather than having to constantly police anyone who would skimp on the less-strict-but-still-significant dress codes. The convenience for the school far outweighs the inconvenience for the students. It's different in America, of course, where so many schools don't have uniform- which would mean that implementing them would be changing the system into something that nobody wants or is used to- and would rather invest in metal detectors (low blow ahoy). Honestly, I'd rather complain about the obligatory high school system itself and the fact that so much of school feels like, excuse the slang, 'filler' where you learn nothing that's actually useful. At least that affects the actual education somewhat. PS- Blazers are a bitch, though. Stiff, annoying, and when you raise your arms the insides tear themselves up. Double PS- In my school, everyone wears pants, so there's no "Girls turning up their skirts" here. :/ Actually, the summer uniform is somewhat comfortable, it's the winter uniform that makes you want to rebel. Bah, flippin' ties and blazers. What you do for me? Nuffin'. Edit- Triple PS Combo Breaker- I have to say, about the time I saw the group of emo/goths, that I was kind of actually surprised that they... existed. I always thought that people were exaggerating, but oh my, they really did look like the stereotypical emo/goth. And the stereotypical Valley Girls really did look like mini-skirt, high-pitched Valley Girls. And the nerds looked like nerds. I felt like I was in a badly-written sitcom, on that one day in a mall in America.

Well uniforms are standard where I come from but mostly they are just a way to not have to police clothing and offensive clothing.
At our high schools, 3rd through 6th form (where kids have to legally be at school) they enforce uniforms. Once you get to 7th form and can leave if you don't want to be there they trust the students to wear what they want. Interestingly when in 7th form I didn't really notice the people in uniform. I would always miss my younger friends as everyone in uniform looked the same... |

Where I am the uniform was limited to a fairly comfortable white polo with the school emblem and any jacket or pants/shorts skirt as long as they were dark. Still allowed a lot of individuality particularly with the jackets(though you had to wear school jackets until year 11, and even then the school rugby jumper was comfortable enough I still wear mine when I want something warm and I'm not going somewhere).
Essentially with our school it was more probably the point that Regulus made, that the alumni and teachers outranked you, a point I think is not made enough really.

Id hate uniforms. If I cant wear a pair of pants so baggy, and so overloaded with pockets that I could hold an orphanage worth of kids in there, I'd go mad.

Not speaking for anyone else, but I think if the school was actually good then uniforms wouldn't be necessary. At least that's how it seems at my school (we don't have uniforms by the way). Sure, we're mild in violence and the such compared to a lot of schools, but a lot of things have been dumbed down and are done inefficiently, which upsets a lot of people enough to disrespect the teachers. So, at least in my school, it's seems more like it's the ineptitude of the faculty that's causing all of the "you're just a teacher, what the hell do you know?" feeling than a lack of uniforms.

I guess this is just consequences of going to high school with a bunch of rich little shits, I can't remember how many times I heard one idiot version or another of "why should I pay attention in his class, he drives a Volvo."
