I think you should start playing the New Super Mario Brothers. I borrowed it from my brother for a day and my best friend and I played the crap out of it. We pretty much could not stop until we beat it. It is a blast, but I love multiplayer games like that, and I love Mario platformers.

New Super Mario Bros Wii IS pretty damn fun, especially in multiplayer. Multiplayer is freakishly fun and often unintendedly hilarious because everything you do can have unforeseen bad consequences on your fellow "teammates." (Or maybe not so unforeseen if you're playing for the lulz. You can "accidentally" pick up fellow players and hurl them across the stage, "accidentally" steal powerups, "accidentally" use your teammate's head as a springboard to grab distant items and "accidentally" end up ruining said teammate's jump in the process, sending them off a cliff to their deaths.....) But it's a lot of fun with other people. It's a fairly difficult game, in my opinion (or maybe I just suck) but it's totally worth it.
Plus, the difficulty level is amusing in multiplayer because failure is everyone and everything's fault. As my sister so eloquently put it: "This is the only game where I can sit here and rage at the TV in a fake Mario voice and not worry about offending Player 2 in the process."

Monster Hunter is another game I didn't recommend because it's hard. It takes a long time t accomplish anything at the beginning, and it takes a long time to accomplish anything important after that. However, a successful hunt against all odds gives a sense of satisfaction that you won't find in most modern games. Go for it if you want a long, long game that keeps on giving. So, yeah, MH Tri and Muramasa are a little difficult, and Dokapon hates you, but they're all fantastic and in my library.

Little King's Story? A lot of people that play it seem to really like it... I personally didn't think it was that good, but entirely worth playing, for sure...

I had success with the GC controller. But yeah I wouldn't want to be using a Wiimote.

Definitely seconding this. While the gameplay isn't anything amazing, it's one of the most imaginative games on Wii, easily rivaling any Mario title. All the little details of the game are bursting with personality. How can you not love a game where one of the boss battles is an obese French monarch that you bounce around a field like a pinball? The soundtrack of creatively arranged classical tunes is fantastic too. I actually researched and starting listening to some old composers because of this game.
