Unlikely, but they would make it rather difficult to set up a drilling operation to get it out. Also, in the case of massive deaths from rising temperatures and a shortage of food, I don't think oil will be the primary resource we'll be warring for anymore, as opposed to farm land.

At any rate, I really don't want to put ourselves in a position where we'll learn the answers to these hypothetical questions of what governments might be willing to do the hard way.
EDIT: Even assuming monstrous hydrogen bombs were ruled out due to a need to extract resources, tactical nukes and other smaller-scale WMDs could definitely be used to obliterate major population centers and government capitals, effectively enabling faroff farmland and water resources within said foreign jurisdiction to be easily conquered. Why am I indulging in this scary-as-shit hypothetical again?

it's not the hard way, the hard way is getting rich to stop being evil shits who don't care about any one else and about anything other than their bottom line. Oil company CEO's are moving away from saying climate change isn't happening to saying the effects just dont matter and that we should just adapt. Probably because their companies entire asset portfolio is reliant on the world continuing to go through fossil fuels at an ever increasing rate.

Tactical nukes are called that because they're more precise and have less widespread fallout than normal nukes. Generally very small nuclear charges that are directed etc. etc.
Anyway, the 'How exactly will we continue to ruin the world once the world is ruined' is probably a little off topic of 'we're all going to die of starvation and no one is doing anything to stop it' thing.

The rich are working on space programs to get to Mars. It is their master plan.

The revolution will be memed!

Since more and more Space Exploration related stuff is getting turned over to private companies, might be that's exactly what some of the rich are betting on.

So we are clear
|
they wont use nukes, not just because of what was mentioned before about making it vastly harder to get the resources but also because mutually assured destruction is still a thing.
Besides if we are that desperate for fuel we will use nuclear power. Say what you want about the dangers but if we are risking nuclear war to get to oil than a well made reactor is a better option. And thats assuming we dont have fusion or more economical solar power by then. War will be over food and water, which america has lots of. Worst case scenario they can great a massive irrigation system using the great lakes. Expensive yes but well within our technological abilities. China and India are the other two major food providers, but they lack the fresh water we have. Even if they didn't, again America is one of the major food providers of the world. Most other countries already rely on food from these three places to survive. What do you think will happen when we start hording it all for ourselves? US is more likely to be invaded than to invade. As for us as a species surviving. Of course we will. It wont be a good life, but it will be life. I said the species would survive, the culture will die. in all seriousness I'd be totally behind abandoning ship and colonizing space. Personally I think its kind of dumb to have all our metaphoric eggs on the literal earth
