They already revealed in the first game they were not all dead.
They revealed that not all of them were killed by the Reapers. The facility on Ilos survived, but then all of the personnel died one by one until only the head scientists were alive. Then they built the Conduit which they used and then died of starvation on the Citadel. So none of them were alive anymore, until ME2. And in ME2 all of them were supposedly very little like the actual Protheans originally. Weren't they supposed to just be like mindless husks basically?

Now I'm willing to accept the character if he is well done and interesting and all that. But I can't bring myself to like any of the story choices that had to be made in order to reach a point where Shepard could have a Prothean Samurai as a squad mate.

They never said Illos was the only installation. There could have been several pockets of stasis centers spread around to continue the species. That's not that far of a stretch. But again, this is all speculation. They could even use the technology they used to bring Shepard back to life. He was pretty dead when they used it on him. The way it seemed, as long as they had a body they could bring it back to life. Really not that far of a stretch.

The technology used to bring Shepard back was already testing my suspension of disbelief. So not buying it.

The idea that the second and third parts of a three-part story aren't allowed to change any part that came before them as part of the progression of the story is pretty hilarious and unrealistic. Come on, now.

"Oh my God! In ME1 We were told that Reapers are unknowable and completely unstoppable and then in ME2 we find out that they can be understood and maybe even stopped? WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT!? How dare you tell a story where things shift and change based on story progression and discovered knowledge! All things must remain the same!"

Not saying changes aren't allowed. I'm just saying I don't like all of them.

Like... this one Quarian has a really guttural voice, so the program'd give him a Dutch or German accent. (not ze stereotypical akzents, of course...)

You know what I'm saying?

This is a stretch with the Prothean, as there probably wouldn't be a translation database for his language, but one assumes he learned English by studying humans... and his prime subject was an african-american human.
And while studying humanity he got interested by Japanese culture. Gods know this happens amongst humans as well, so...

yes, I am. because there was a time when Mass Effect was trying to be a semiserious science fiction story, not everything terrible about my japanese animes. To put this in perspective, someone killing nazis by way of paratroop elbow drop from space followed by killing the fuck out of an entire nazi base with their bare hands may be awesome, but that doesn't mean its a scene that belongs in Schindler's List.

vomiting poorly conceived ideas all over your work because its "awesome!" or "badass!" or "reaganomical!" or whatever ironic buzzwords are popular today is not how you write a good story, and is in fact entirely opposed to the concept of "good writing."

there's this thing called "consistency." changes aren't necessarily bad, but when they directly contradict things laid out in earlier installments or follow an entirely different mood from earlier installments, then you have a goddamn problem.

Not to mention that the Reapers being immortal thing is something that's obviously not true because you have no story if it is. But when the center of the plot of the first game is that there are no Protheans around to tell you all the stuff that you need to know and must go to planet after planet seeking the knowledge from their ruins, you have a problem.

And then there's that the facility in which a handful of Protheans survived had only a handful for a reason: They couldn't maintain life support or power in general indefinitely. When power started running out the system started dropping people off in the hopes that somebody would survive long enough for the Reapers to fuck off. So why when it is demonstratable that the Protheans could not indefinitely sustain themselves, even to the minimilalist of capacities, did this one not only survive past the critical point at which none of the other Protheans could survive, but do so for thousands upon thousands of extra years?

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year olds life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

Stefan, the thing is, when you make the actor's accent, and by extension race, a part of your complaints about why ~this is so terrible~, (let alone that you got the accent wrong because whelp) then yeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhh there's some racist subtext to that like whafuck.

And by subtext I mean text.

Is it okay if I think the Prothean squadmate is a stupid thing since my reasons have nothing to do with the voice actor?
