Well done, AJ. They look sharp.
As for what I missed? Meh. I think I'm glad I missed it.

If the comic thread ever leads to this kind of drama again, I'll shut it down.
More on this to come once I have the time to think and sort the mess out. Jesus. |

Shut the comic thread down? That would so blow, Meister. No offense. The comic thread's been a wonderful outlet for people to showcase their creative talents since its conception. I've gotten many a smile, a laugh, and release of stress from watching the various ideas of people whose grasp of comedy, theater, and prose sometimes even rivals that of a certain webcomic master whose art is primarily responsible for the existence of this place. To squelch such grand creativity over something that seems rather minor and consists of a relatively low amount of our populace seems to be a bit of a waste. You have some genius in the thread yourself... and among the other artists who post within it, it would be a grave injustice to all to discontinue such merriment when a much cleaner, more humane cure is available.
Just waste the drama instead.. that'd be a bit less drastic.

I second what Meister said. There's constructive criticism and there's blasting someone. He took it too far, others took it too far. So much childishness, wrapped in something of a cloak of intellectualism...big words and articulated sentences don't mean as much as the force behind them.
This outlet can continue to be a great outlet without having to resort to that kind of situation. This forum has an ignore feature, so too does your mind. One can simply not reply, and if the instigator then takes this lack of response and makes an ass of himself, it lies on his head. When it is a cluster-fuck of this proportion... And for god's sake, an online petition??? As if that itself isn't enough of a reason? I don't have the specifics but I would personally like to know who thought up that little gem, to find out if they were trying to help or just thought it would be funny and cool to hurt someone's feelings that way? That's the part that really disgusts me.

The original reason was to help but some people took it a little too far. I tried to make it into a joke and you can tell by some of the posts in there by the President. Actually, DarkCORN! was never suppose to see it. I don't know who gave it to him but it wasn't very nice and I feel bad for signing it now.
Edit: Wasn't my idea, for the record.

I was not aware of the existence of the petition, nor do I know what the purpose of it was and who started it. I guess I'm glad I wasn't a part of it... I hope that this nightmare has come to an end and that it won't happen again. This forum has been too good to me -- I truly wish that it will stay that way for everyone who uses it.
I don't want to be the enemy here, but I don't think DarkCORN was entirely at fault. In some sense, all the people who were involved in this whole issue -- we're probably at fault. I don't really know how to say this, but... there's a bit of a jerk in every one of us. All it needs is an opportunity for it to come out, and once it's out it's hard to keep it down again. I don't know. My brain is hurting as I am typing this, and it's not from the lack of sleep I'm having lately. Oh, and AJ, if I told you I was giving the thumbs up at the computer screen when I was looking at your comic, would you believe it? My sprites can't compare with that... I need to get a new spritesheet. Last edited by Great Cartoonist; 06-05-2006 at 03:00 PM. |

I wasn't aware of this petition either, whatever it was. In any case, there are still more constructive ways to approach this than to tear down a perfectly good thread.
Granted, you are correct in saying there are such things as ignore features. And constructive criticism. And being a dick. Apparently, in this whole fiasco, someone had taken the third option a bit too far. That part, I haven't seen. Still, there are many good things about that thread... and to kill it off because someone started something that they apparently do not have the balls to come forward about it seems a bit like euthanizing a human being because they have a cold. Curing overreaction with overreaction doesn't really benefit anyone.

For the people who signed the petition but were too chickenshit to put their own names on it, there is a very good chance that through your corwardice, you will have had every single person involved in this fiasco temporarily banned. We are still deciding on it. Reason being, there were signatures on the petition that were actually not too mean. However the no-name ones were just dripping of immaturity and flamebait...so we can't just ban the petition people. We'll have to go through this thread and ban everyone, if that is the path we choose.
All the more I look at this I am reminded of the troubles we have had in the past with cliques here. The cool crowd ganging up on the loner, shunning the others because they don't meet a perceived quota, an invisible line that they are "just under" and therefore on the outs with the "in crowd". We know there is an in crowd, even if it isn't called such there is a definite us vs them mentality in several people. This is yet another example of it, considering that one person, three maximum would have been sufficient. 17 on a petition? More in the forum? Pitiful, really. I actually hope you (everybody) feel embarassed reading this because what happened was fucked up. I am by no means supporting what DarkCORN! did as his own reaction was chlidish but he was alone for the most part. So. If you are unable to login and post sometime in the near future it is because the mods have banned everyone involved. The alternative is for those pansies who didn't sign their little screen names on the petition to own up and apologise, publicly, which will be posted on the front page of Nuklearpower if Brian deems it to be so. This thread is closed until we have decided. It could be tonight, tomorrow, a week from now...whenever we feel. No, it is not deleted because we don't want to go that far yet. I bet you can tell I'm damn annoyed because I have posted yet another rambling "you screwed up bad" post. Well. I've made a comic about it. I hope you enjoy.
