So, you're saying that RPGs will fall to the wayside in lieu of GTA clones and Sports repeats? Trust me, no matter how much America succumbs to the popular genres, we'll never be at a loss for good games. Japan for sure doesn't care about what we buy, and there are a few bastions of non-EA developers, like Naughty Dog and Insomniac and Retro etc, that continue to make quality games because they found quality sells.

Video Game shows blow right now because they HAVE to be sponsored. The Oscars only look at the best because they get the opinions of the best in the indudstry and don't cowtow to their pimps. Do you really think the results of the Video Game Awards would have been the same if the judging table had been comprised of video game journalists, insiders, and developers?

When you compare Spike TV to G-Phoria, G-Phoria's way better. Because you see, Viewtiful Joe was a nominee for Game of the Year and it won the award for Best New Franchise. A Japanese game. From Capcom, even! Whodda thunk?

(Note: VJ deserved Game of the Year. Not that shitty turn based Pokecrap clone KOTOR)

So, at least G4 isn't completely stupid.

Yeah, KOTOR's a clone of Pokemon, right. Can I just point out that you don't need to express your hatred of KOTOR in every post you make. Anyways, yes, the awards sucked, yes they were a big EA commercial, deal with it, move on.

I don't hate KOTOR. I just think it's overrated. Just like Halo, and GTA, and Need for Speed, and Metal Gear Solid, and many other games.

Politics and video games: two tastes that do not taste great together.

All of this is inconsequential, since I can't stand awards shows and I shall be playing games instead.

Viewtiful Joe got screwed out of Game of the Year; I'll give KotOR the benefit of the doubt; I just at the time wished people would shut up about it. I love VJ (it's hard as hell, enough to give me Megaman flashbacks), and I will be buying the 2nd one.

ya but why whould g4 have to whore themselves if they're a VIDEO GAME CHANNEL. I can see why spike had to get sponsors offa the ying yang but it dosnt seem like g4 would have needed enough sponsors to change who they gave awards too. but gphoria wasnt that bad or at least not near as bad as spikes "video game awards". so my opinion is not set on that.

Whoa there, I wouldn't be saying the Oscars are that great either. There are pleanty of movies they bow down to just because of popularity or how much money it made. And there have been multiple decisions by the judges in my view to give awards to movies they personally liked, overturning the popular vote of all the people in the oscars.

Plus the oscar system is a little rigged because all the people in the Academy (all people from Hollywood) are mostly in the films that are nomminated...so of course they and their friends all vote for themselves....

All of these Award shows are rigged. Its just a big game of 'how much can I do what I want vs. how much flaming will I get from the general public for my choice'.

Yeah. The only way a fair choice is made is if the public is so openly supportive that they have no choice. Not to mention the fact that even if these shows were based entirely fairly, they could display only the opinions of the judges.

Bah, I say. RPGs aren't God's gift to man. You can't judge gamers on whether or not they like RPGs.

That said, Spike TV is the Men's Channel. It has the Man Show. Is it any wonder that their awards show would showcase games that their target audience is interested in? Like sports games? Like GTA?

Personally, M+L blows FF out of the water, so nyah-nyah!
