Did I mention the mechs themselves feed on the blood of the enemy mechs to increase their power, possessing big drill-fangs in their mech-heads?

Not sure why this hasn't already been made into an anime.

Oh, and it's basically sort of like Highlander but darker. Vampires have already destroyed all organic life that exists that uses blood as it's circulatory system. The only blood that remains is that which powers other vampires bio-mechs. The vampires themselves receive their blood directly intravenously from their mechs, but this blood will be used up over time if the vampire doesn't kill other vampires by attacking their mechs and sucking all the blood from them. Eventually all vampires will die--the victor will only survive a short time longer than the others, leaving the world a depopulated forest and grassland, devoid of sentient life, mammals, and birds.

EDIT: I think a lot of original movie ideas they come out with now do either suck or else no one watches them despite their inherent awesomeness and so it's less risky to bank on a remake or basically a retelling of a popular movie because you're almost guaranteed the same amount of profit as the original movie made.

This doesn't always work out. Like if whoever made it had pointed out that The Brave One was basically a by-the-numbers Death Wish remake I bet it would've done a lot better than it did (which I don't think was that well), because Death Wish has become popular throughout the years. And then Ultraviolet seemed to be an attempt to make something sort of like Blade and an anime crossed together or something but the resulting film was horrible. So when something which theoretically can't fail does then studios are even more wary of "new" properties.

Caught this last night.

Basically, this review is pretty spot on. It's a fun 90+ minute ride that features a world run by bloodsucking vampires who aren't entirely different from regular people. It's funny and BLOODY.

The biggest negative thing I can say about it is that it relies just a bit too much on jump scares. Then again, maybe that's intentional. In a lot of ways, this feels like a very old school vampire movie that just happens to take place in the future.

I'm gonna have to disagree pretty hard that this was a good movie. I mean, I LOVE the concept. But it felt like a completely different person wrote the script from who thought it up. Like, the opening there, where they show all the vampires living their normal lives with very slight vampire-directed modifications? That was excellent. They put a lot of thought into it.

Then it was like, VAMPIRE SOLDIERS WITH TRANQUILIZER GUNS STRONG ENOUGH TO SHOOT THROUGH A CAR'S REAR WINDSHIELD AND GO OUT THE FRONT and HUMAN RESISTANCE FIGHTERS WITH STAKE-LAUNCHING CROSSBOWS THAT MAKE VAMPIRES EXPLODE IF YOU HIT THEM IN THE CHEST. Plus, not to spoil anything, but too many people survived having their fucking carotid arteries ripped open. I mean, in one scene, this guy's been bitten in the neck, and all the clothing on his ENTIRE LEFT SIDE has gotten stained with his own blood, and then he just kinda walks it off.

There are also nitpicky things like how the directors have NO idea what fucking camouflage is appropriate (if your army operates mainly at night, you use black camo, NOT FUCKING DESERT CAMO ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A CITY).

But the major issue I had with it was the cure for vampirism. They never really stated WHY being a vampire was a bad thing, aside from "oh they're scary monsters if they don't get blood". Once the blood substitute was sent out there, there was literally NO reason why vampires were evil at all. Plus, the way the cure worked - controlled exposure to sunlight - seems like something that they'd have discovered by accident beforehand.

So it COULD have been good but they fucked up the execution too hard.

What I heard about this movie makes it seem like its basic concept is not unlike the concept that was rejected for Blade III (because it was too good.)
