The whole thing about me saying Kit was "supposed to be black" didn't sit very well with me so I heavily edited the previous post (and elaborated more on my process).
It came across the wrong way. Like I was trying to make some kinda racial statement when I wasn't. Kit's ethnicity is "demon girl" and she's pink. Simply speaking, Kit's face is loosely based on a woman who I really like. Kit shares some of the woman's features, including her relatively full lips. The model's race is irrelevant, and I don't know why I brought it up And it's even more irrelevant because Kit has diverged so much from my initial planning that she is totally her own person now. She has to be for the sake of her various expressions. I can still see bits of her model in her, but I think that's just me. This kind of "use a model as a base" is a good way to get started on a character's look, but I think eventually you have to break away from the reference so you can give the character a personal touch.

Kit's lips aren't unrealistically big at all Iggy. My complaint earlier was more than most times lips are drawn unnaturally small or absent and I'd gotten used to it. I know tons of people with lips that big naturally. Also my objections were largely driven by stubborn "this is not what I'm used to BAWW" feelings. After a few weeks I actually really like it. I might wait til a break in the story or a scene shift to introduce the new art style though Matt.

I think that the thing that is really drawing so much attention to Kit's lips for me is the fact that it's a black and white picture. They stick out as much as possible with no color.

I like the new style. I've been reading the comic since the beginning, so of course it's a change, but I think it's a good one. Anime girl faces tend to all look alike to me.

I like how people seem to think I'm raging about the art shift.
Uh... I'm not. But those lips...

Here's a preview of a panel from the upcoming Christmas Special! It's gonna be awhile till this is posted in full (probably around December 15th).
(I wish I could get this thread stickied like my HIKYM one, it'd sure be convenient.) The Panel!

So, if you follow me on Twitter, or if you're someone I chat with, you may be aware I briefly considered coloring The Dreadful.
Well, here is an image of one of the tests I did, and a link to the blog post about it I made on Pink.
