Well, see, they protested against state governmetns who actually cared enough about their own opposing opinion to go out there and beat them and spray them with icy water, not to mention consisting of police and leaders who were brutal and callous and violent enough to do/order to be done.
This ignited even more protests in people originally unrelated to their cause. So this shows some progress in other areas that cause protests to no longer cause change like they used to: the senseless beatings and breaking up of protests does not occur. Protesting is considered acceptable, and hell, after the last several years, mundane. Therefore their power is lost. Not to mention people go and protest at the drop of a hat often for, to most of us, idiotic or frivolous causes. And there are tons of people who actually make their living organizing and participating in protests, probably even in ones they don't really care that much about. That's capitalism for ya.
