In a way todays episode bothered me abit. Mostly, I just dont see why Katara was bothered by blood bending. Seems like a rather effective way of defeating a foe without hurting them.

Also, bug anyone else when she clearly stated that she taught Katara a water bending technique and the fire nation citizens just walk away without a second thought?

Katara is a very moral person. Do you really think she would enjoy taking away the freedom of somebody? This is also something that could be used to actually stop a man's heart. That kind of power is just too much for her.

They probably thought she was mad and saying stupid stuff because she was mad. Which she was.

I point to this as being a plot hole or relevant for the future. More probably a plot hole.

she has pinned people down in ice cacoons, that would qualify as taking away freedom. She encased combustion man's head in ice which if he hadn't removed would have sufficated him. Too much power? She can cut metal. If Avatar wasn't targetting a family demographic we would see water benders slicing off body parts. So yea, she could stop their heart with that technique, but with what she already knows she could also remove their heads

I think it was more due to the morbidity of it.

Besides, all she'd have to do is wait for a full moon and Ozai would be toast. They need to try and give a reason why she doesn't use this ZOMGSUPERPOWERFULDOOM move.

There's a difference in restraining someone and actually using them as puppets, literally bending people just sounds like a horrible, disgusting maneuver to me too.

I mean it may sound practical, but it's plain creepy, more or less. It's like a horror story.

well I suppose it might be that morbidity just doesn't bug me. Heck in my own comic I have a character that would peel off each layer of your body while doing all he could to keep you alive solely so you will suffer longer. So in comparison restraining someone by taking control of their body doesn't seem so bad. Besides although its not actually said its implied Ozai must be killed. If it came down to it I say bend his body into a proned position then water bend his head off.

All of this is from a practical stand point though. I am well aware that although it would be a pretty cool move it is not as entertaining as a massive climatic battle.

Katara is going to bloodbend again. They aren't going to give her this ability, then just forget about it.

Practically, of course bloodbending is the ultimate bending technique (at least until vacuumbending is revealed as the advanced subclass of airbending). The problem is that we are dealing with what are basically teenagers facing world changing events. As much as they are the catalyst of what may save or not the whole of humanity, you have to remember that they are still a bit innocent at heart. Besides, as previously stated, controlling people like puppets is even worse at some extent than simply imprisoning somebody, since you can actually make your surrogates commit acts of treachery, murder, rape and whatnot while they are conscious about it.

Bloodbending implies more than simple loss of freedom. Bloodbending is the slavery of the whole body.

That's what makes it even more disgusting. It's obvious that she will have to face the decision of using it again at a moment that may very well be crucial or life saving. What you have to ask yourself is what would you do, given the circumstances. Do the ends really justify the means?
