I'm sorry, but I think it's bull that any school should have the gall to specifically not have a flag just because of an administration currently on its way out the door. I always hated doing the pledge in grade school, because not saying the words the first time meant doing a solo, and because I never, even as a kid, was into the everyone (specifically me) being good little puppets thing.

However, what I wanted was a choice. I could have gotten over myself and chosen to do the pledge if I'd been given one, but these kids are, ironically, getting just the opposite. Their being deprived of the choice to express loyalty to what the flag is supposed to stand for.

I think Mark Twain said it best with "support your country unconditionally; your government when it deserves it."

If I pledge something, I only need to do it once. Because I mean it. Two years later, I still mean it. A pledge is an oath.

But perhaps I am in the minority, believing pledges and oaths only need to be taken once. The sitting President had pledged only twice to defend the constitution, and it is obvious he needs more frequent (perhaps daily) reminders.

I think if we are going to require school children to pledge their allegiance to our nation every damn day, then it is also appropriate to require a sitting President to himself pledge to defend the constitution, just as often.

I'm totally not sure on this one, but wouldn't the president of the United States ALSO be taking, daily, his pledge of allegiance like anyone else who is required? I won't suggest that he actually DOES it, because I don't know, but is it not a requirement as much as it is in schools?
