Starting out you're gonna draw a few misshapen circles on the PS2 too, but it works flawlessly once you got it down, which doesn't take all that long either. Apart from that, great enough? Absolutely.

While we're at it, has anyone played Yakuza/Yakuza 2? Any good?

Shining Tears is actually a great game if you're playing only co-op. It gets hard and repetitive when you're on your own, though.

I filled up four of my five slots with Okami, Bully, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, and Zone of the Enders 2.

(Thank the heavens for free birthday money, as I'd be too poor without my recent bulge to my checking account.)

Justifications:
Even if it's not the definitive "Scholarship" version of Bully, I've heard only decent things about it and I genuinely enjoyed the GTA sandbox games well enough. Also I don't an X360.
Zone of the Enders The Second Runner was a fairly obvious choice for me given that Hideo Kojima was responsible for it. Also, I love mechs. Finally, I couldn't find the original ZoE anywhere, but I heard this game was better and that playing the first before the second ZoE wasn't necessary.
I enjoyed the first Ratchet and Clank game enough to prefer it over many other titles in my collection and I felt that was justification enough to own more then one game in teh series.
Okami was the toughest decision because I also own a Wii, and I thought long and heard about the Wii version. In the end I chose Okami because I found a used PS2 copy for cheap and I basically heard that both versions were phenomenal. I also couldn't find Katamari Damacy anywhere and Katamari Damacy was the only other game I considered for this slot.

I also traded my copy of Virtua Fighter 4 for a copy of Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution. I heard VF4: Evolution includes all of the original VF4's content anyway. (If that's not true, I may regret the trade, but the original VF4 can be bought for only four dollars used anyway, so it's not a substantial financial loss.)

I'm saving the fifth and final remaining slot for my last ever PS2 purchase for either Persona 4 (if it gets great reviews) or Devil May Cry 3 / Katamari Damacy / Guilty Gear XX (if Persona 4 is a disappointment.) I guess I could also get Shin: Nocturne with that spot. But assuming I like Persona 3 FES (that's an additional factor too) and Persona 4 gets great reviews when it comes out, Persona 4 will be the gimmie choice.

I really wasn't Devil May Cry's biggest fan (played the first, rented the second) so I doubt I'll ever have sufficent incentive to own DMC3, but you never know. I'd imagine if Persona 4 is a bust I'll probably go Katamari (if I can find it) or Guilty Gear XX (if I can't find Katamari.)

I may actually decide to open up more slots in my CD folder by trading copies of games I currently own to make room for superior games like Damacy and Guilty Gear XX. For example, I own LoTR: Two Towers and that game is crap. I could trade it and open room in my CD folder for both Katamari and Persona 4. I also wasn't a huge fan of Splinter Cell (as evidenced by the fact that I own only the first game in that series) so that's another trade-in opportunity. Who knows, I may just trade in LoTR: TTT and Splinter Cell and a couple other games and have room for every PS2 game left out there I've considered purchasing.

So let's play a new game: which games that Solid Snake currently owns in his collection should he give away to make room for superior titles?

That is a question you must ask yourself, young padawan.

But no, seriously, if you have fun with it, why get rid of it?

If you enjoy racking up combos with God of War 1 and 2 I have no idea why you aren't willing to try DMC3. It is far far better than #1 and I happen to like Devil May Cry quite a lot. The second is a bad indicator - even people who aren't fans really hate that game.

Try DMC3, then Persona, then GGXX, then Katamari. I only put Katamari last because it's one of those games that doesn't have much replay value despite being a total blast the first time.

I wouldn't "get rid" of any game I actually really enjoyed. But for example, if I kept LoTR: TTT in my collection I'd probably never play it. Ever. Again.
No sense in really keeping a game you won't touch again with a ten foot pole.

Having test-driven (as in, played for about ten to fifteen minutes) every one of my new purchases except the new Ratchet, I can say I'm loving Zone of the Enders (hell the tutorial got me hooked) and Bully, while no GTA slayer, looks quite entertaining. Also, Okami was just...wow. I got the immediate impression that like ICO and SotC, Okami's going to be all about an extraordinary atmosphere and artistic presentation.

At least I'll hand it to those of you who recommended these games, these look like great last hurrahs for my PS2.

Pretty much yeah. I still need to add that to my collection. God, why am I ordering so many yet-to-be-released games when I have perfectly good ones at home?

Also:

I generally just have a very low opinion of console games based on movies that came out. I bought Lord of the Rings: TTT and damn, that was a huge mistake.
Trust me when I say that Spider Man 2 has that vibe, but it goes above and beyond. Gabe from Penny Arcade said that if you told him a year ago that his favorite PS2 game of whatever year it came out in was going to be a movie tie-in, he'd laugh at you, but suddenly Spider-Man 2's out and he's being proven wrong.

Trust me. It's great. I wouldn't recommend it if I wasn't genuinely entertained by it.

Also, on your SC3 thing; yeah, I didn't think you were going to. You had SC2, SC3 was worth a few movelists but it was buggy and broken like crazy. I just felt like recommending it because, well, it is Soul Calibur. SC3 if you have a PS3 is a kick though.

Games to trade in;

Well, do you really need any two Dynasty Warriors games? You should probably trade in Splinter Cell if you didn't really enjoy it enough to bother with any of the others (can't say I blame you there).

Also I noticed you put an "ugh", next to Sonic Heroes. I take it that means it's pretty bad?

Replace all these with Mercenaries (you say you like sandbox games. This one allows you to call in airstrikes and blow up anything), DMC3 (for the love of all things awesome man, get this game!) and Spider Man 2.

You will not regret this, unless you have no soul and hate great things.

Trade in the non-Empires version of Dynasty Warriors and Sonic Heroes.

Now go buy the new version of Persona 3 (FES?), DMC 3, and Mercenaries (it has the best village in any game ever).

You will not regret it.
