I think it's safe to say we all already knew that.

This is just a really bad idea. Some things can't make the transition to live action and Bleach strikes me as one of them. Plus, I really don't think American audiences would go for it.

I just saw the Death Note movie and I thought it was well done. An American remake/adaptation would be awesome and Zach Efron would be perfect for the lead. For the record, I hate HSM but I really think that he could pull it off.

Death Note and Zac Efron doesn't sound bad at all. I also liked the Live Action. Truthfully I'm wondering how the Live Action Cowboy Bebop is going to turn out. Keanu Reeves almost looks like Spike Spiegel, from some art I've seen of him with an afro, but he can move as smooth as him? Live Action Sailor Moon wasn't half bad, nor GTO or Gokusen. I still need to watch Boogiepop Phantom, and I think that's the only ones I know of.

Thanks for that link Aerozord, that was a great read. I don't think I ever really took any of that into consideration, so much as I just thought the people never wanted to look for a good actress and grabbed the nearest pretty one.

Default Oh man

Hollywood is making a Bleach movie, and the thing we're focused on is "The actress playing Rangiku won't have tits as big as Rangiku has?"

It is very likely that will be the movies sole redeeming quality.

This thread makes me twice as ashamed to be a Bleach fan as I used to be.

I felt pretty bad talking about it. Though really, we all know how mediocre/bad it might be. Bleach just isn't the kind of anime that can be done in live action.

What anime would work as live action? Some stories are just too complex and strange to work in a movie. If people want to make a live action adaptation then they should try it on television where they could be a bit more faithful.

Well, that just brings up another problem: Most anime, at least those that would be chosen for a live action adaptation, would require a special effects budget that TV rarely, if ever can cover.

It kinda creates a double-edged sword dealie: A movie could cover all the special effects, but a lot of the story would have to be taken out to get everything to fit. A TV series, on the other hand, could fit the story in, but has a greater chance of all the mystical mojo looking like ass(Quality of it despite the budget aside).

Some anime would work in live action adaptations without too many problems, it's just that most audiences besides the fans wouldn't even know they existed previously, or be very marketable in the first place.

Honestly, the movies Hollywood wants to do would work best in one of two ways:

1) A CGI-animated work, the likes of Pixar and Dreamworks. Not only could the same voice actors be kept to bring in fans, but everything would simply look like it originally was.

2) A live action adaptation that kept the fundamentals of the 'verse, but with new characters and plot. In this topic's case, a detective in <Insert Western City Here> gets involved with Hollow-based murders and eventually works with a Western equivalent of shinigamiSoul Reapers to stop them(Holy Knights of some sort, MIBs, I dunno). It still identifies with fans a bit by following the verse mechanics, and it wouldn't be the clusterfuck of most live action adaptations.

That being said, some anime just shouldn't be adapted period, if only because Hollywood would fuck something up.

I'd see it if they went in that direction. I don't see them doing it in CG. Even despite astroboy getting the CG treatment with a reworked story and turning out pretty good.

For Bleach fans, this is a serious and enormous issue that should be handled with care.
