You can't blame us for wishful thinking, though.

Seemed to just be the equivalent of realizing that you're in a dream and it becoming a lucid dream. As in, it's up to Dave how his bubblescape is shaped, now.

Oh gog, I just had the bestest idea
Valentine's day flash: -Nepeta being beaten to death and then more(Equius is the weapon) -Vriska finishing her chat with John and following up with her mission -Rose flying to her horroterror death -Terezi being surprised by a honk -Dave looking behind and noticing Aradia isn't there anymore and suddenly he's all alone in an empty dream -Tavros trying to meet Jade in his bubble but failing constantly(I get this image of him finding her with her back turned on him, but when she turns around she has Rufio's face) All of this with I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing playing on the background. Then we get a "Happy Valentines Day" card painted with the blood of all the dead trolls and with some of their bits and pieces scattered around. Last edited by MuMu; 02-12-2011 at 04:40 AM. |

...Part of me does feel quite happy to have the opportunity to see a character like Tavros again in some capacity...
...But another part of me is actually rather worried about exactly what all this means. I just think it's a fairly bad sign that we're so close to what should be a climax to this story, and yet I have absolutely not the slightest clue what is going on. Like I'm all for stories dropping last-second plot twists and crazy game-changers near the end of the tale, but usually you at least at have some coherent idea as to what the story's about, what the objectives are, why the characters are doing what they're doing. The inclusion of this expansive "Afterlife in bubbles" concept has left me absolutely baffled. At least prior to this most recent string of updates, the whole House of Herrors theme in the trolls' session led me to conclude that the purpose of the trolls' session would be revealed soon, that lots of superfluous characters would die and the few characters left would advance the plot, and that important questions would be definitively answered. So yeah, a bit torn on these developments. On the one hand it's great to know that characters like Tavros and Equius will have the opportunity to experience meaningful closure through further interactions. On the other hand, it's just a whole lot of additional questions and additional complexity to interweave into a story that's actually starting to feel a tad bloated. It's really starting to feel like early Season Three of LOST. (Kudos if you actually followed LOST enough to get the reference.) There are all these different plot points and concepts that are introduced that are intriguing on their individual merits, but as the viewers are completely uninformed as to even a minutiae of details regarding the broader narrative arc, it just feels like we're getting bogged down in the excess. Is Jades' frog experimentation project really going to important? Is this afterlife really going to be important, and are we really going to be spending a lot of time there? Will the troll ancestors really be important? If they're not important and they're simply superfluous, why include them? And if they are all really incredibly important plot elements...is Homestuck actually ever going to end anytime soon? Because I can't possibly imagine any way all these plot strands would be conveniently tied together and resolved. |
